Vehicle Description
2012 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport 3LT Convertible
"The new Corvette Grand Sport strikes me as the Goldilocks in the
Corvette lineup. A mix of "just right" components from the base
model Corvette and the Z06, it also sees a pretty healthy discount
when compared to the Z06, and is plenty capable with 430 horsepower
on tap. This car could be considered the AK-47 of the supercar
world; it's got all the stuff you really need, (big glorious V8,
manual transmission, rear wheel drive, and chick magnets in the
passenger seat), for about as little money as that market segment
will allow. Sure, you could go bigger with the Z06 or really jump
the cliff with a ZR1, but for 95% of my life, I'd pick the Grand
Sport." Grassroots Motorsports, Dec. 2013 on the 2012 Grand
Sport.
For consignment, a 2012 Chevrolet Grand Sport 3LT convertible with
a title verified 6,290 actual miles. Yes, another garage queen
Vette for the taking with an effortless transmission and 800 miles
on Michelin Pilot Sport tires. The original window sticker, showing
its $74,000 price as new, is included with the car.
ExteriorI
mpeccable paint covers a beautifully shaped C6 corvette, with the
Crystal Red Metallic Tintcoat providing a nice backdrop to the
contrasting colors including the tan canvas top and the spectacular
thin spoke chrome wheels, 18-inch in front and 19-inch in back. ZR
rated tires onboard have an early 2021 date code. There's a gaping
front intake and triple slit gills on the fenders, with a Grand
Sport name plate above and wide rear fenders borrowed from the Z06.
Let's not forget the scoop on the hood which appears on other
performance models and is an instant cue to something special,
along with the rear brake ducts. The back of the car sports the
dramatic quad center exit exhaust tips and perhaps the most
recognizable tail lights in American automotive history, here with
polished rings. Chin scrapes on the front dam are the only
imperfections we find on this Vette which presents like new.
Interior
The 3LT package includes a custom leather wrapped interior, memory
package, sport seats with power bolster and power lumbar, heated
seats, leather bucket seats, a tilt/telescopic steering column, and
a Bose audio system with DVD Navigation system, AM/FM/CD,
Bluetooth, and a universal home remote. Looking in the car, all the
Light Cashmere and Ebony surfaces are in new condition, as
expected, on the door panels and the tan leather of the robust
bucket seats. Behind the black steering wheel, the analogue gauges
are relatively basic and are flanked by side pods of toggle
switches to control trip odometer and other information as well as
mode selection. The audio system resides in the center stack where
a screen provides the information while A/C and heater controls
fall just below that as do the buttons for the heated seats. The
stout shifter in the center console is positioned to the left and
closer to the driver and a leather wrapped armrest completes the
center features. The low pile tan carpet is protected by Grand
Sport branded and fitted carpet mats and the trunk wears a diamond
stitched mat over the gray panels that finishes the space and every
part of the interior is in great condition.
Drivetrain
A 6.2 liter LS3 V8 lives under the long hood, accented by red
engraved Corvette wording on the covers, and putting out an
astounding 436 horsepower. This example carries a 6L80E 6-speed
automatic transmission that routes power to the rear limited slip
axle with 2.73 gears. Of course, power disc brakes are found on all
four wheels. The bay, brakes, and hood insulation pad are all in
excellent aesthetic condition.
Undercarriage
Clean underneath with no rust of any kind nor errant fluids. The
dual exhaust has a dual mode function and runs through original
equipment mufflers just before exiting via chrome tips. The complex
performance suspension consists of double wishbone upper and lower
control arms, transverse composite leaf springs, and monotube shock
absorbers.
Drive-Ability
Stable, solid, and boatloads of fun, this Corvette delivers on the
test loop and we're instantly wishing our circuit was about 10
miles long. Blistering acceleration, track like handling, and an
Indy car like cockpit, this is the epitome of the American sports
car. All functions available on this 3LT equipped rocket operate as
they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these
functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot
guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your
purchase.
We saw this car in our parking lot and were pleased to learn it was
here to join our inventory. It's pure Corvette and at the same time,
could pass for an exotic in this particular spec. It really is a
head turner and a testament to Chevy's continual effort to improve
the make with each passing generation. This is about as close to a
new 2012 Grand Sport as you'll find and it comes with a windscreen
and window sticker just in case you're still on the fence.
