Vehicle Description
1960 Chevrolet Impala 2 Door Hardtop
"Just wait until you see it. Everything about the '60 Chevy, every
styling accent, every engineering detail, has been polished and
refined to a degree of perfection never before thought possible of
a car in Chevrolet's price class. Picture practicality and economy
combined with the luxury and hushed comfort usually associated with
high priced cars. That's Chevy!"
For consignment, a 1960 Chevrolet Impala 2 door hardtop showing 40
miles, but the true miles are unknown. The build was finished three
years ago and the mileage shown is that since the build, according
to our consignor. It's a fantastic package capped off by air ride
suspension and a tire and wheel set up that sets this Impala
apart.
Exterior
Spectacular two stage Roman Red is contrasted by the Tuxedo Black
on the bubble top and on the contrail of the fantastic jet shaped
trim on the side, pointed forward and leaving a black stripe that
stretches to the back. Turn that corner, and we find the triple
tail light configuration with the center reverse light sandwiched
between red, cone shaped lights. Polished trim on the end of the
horizontal fins accentuates them and breaks the long stretch of red
that comes from the decklid, flanked by rearward canted antennae
and from this angle, we would not be surprised if this car could
fly. The open greenhouse is bolstered by the sharply curved front
windshield as well as the gently bowed rear. Billet Specialty
wheels, 18-inch in front and 20-inch tucked in the back carry
staggered and low profile tires and give the car a fantastic stance
and adherence to modern trends. Paint and trim are great on the car
and we could not find any exterior imperfections.
Interior
Red and black houndstooth inserts dress up the door panels that
include black vinyl panels, polished trim, and a bold red and
chrome accent piece and both present cleanly. That houndstooth
reappears in the inserts of the seats, framed in black, and
mirrored on the attached 2+2 seating in back, and all are show
quality. Talk about a show, the bright red steering wheel with the
boomerang horn ring fronts a dash that layers glossy red around the
Dakota digital gauges, stainless around the knobs in the mid dash,
and black on the lower dash. Polished A-pillars are extra special
and billet stalks on a polished tilt column take this thing over
the top. Metal cupholders have been added under the AM/FM radio and
the floor is flooded with black carpet, all under a black
headliner.
Drivetrain
Spectacular and clean is how we find the 5.3 liter V8 under the
hood, fuel injected and fit with a 92mm throttle body. The
transmission on board is a 4L60E 4-speed automatic that routes
power to the back with 3.55 gears. Wilwood front power disc brakes
are here, and power drums follow them up in back. Shiny headers
begin the exhaust process.
Undercarriage
The cleanliness trend continues underneath where the dual exhaust
conforms to the shape of the X-frame on their way to stock style
mufflers and black painted tailpipes. A few spots of surface rust
on heavy metal items and dry conditions prevail here. CPP tubular
control arms are employed front and rear and the air ride
suspension includes air bags front and rear as well with a 3 link
and a red panhard bar in back.
Drive-Ability
All that suspension work and wide tires makes for a car that tracks
straight and handles well as it hunkers down on the low profile
tires. Visibility, of course, is fantastic and we finished up the
test loop with a check engine light on the dash. In addition, the
horn, wipers, and reverse lights do not work. All other functions
afforded to the driver work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall
represents that these functions were working at the time of our
test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at
the time of your purchase.
Here's a great looking car with a nice drivetrain and immaculate
interior, a show car that only needs the turn of the key to hit the
winner's podium. It's one sleek ride that will turn heads wherever
it happens to be. Make room in the garage, this is one Impala
looking for a new herd leader.
