Model History:
Perhaps the most iconic body style of Porsche's 356, the Speedster began life at the behest of US importer Max Hoffman. According to him, a lower-cost, reasonably spartan open-top roadster was exactly what the brand needed to increase sales. He was quickly proven correct, with the new "Speedster" version and its distinctive cut-down raked windscreen proving quite popular wherever roads were twisty and the weather was nice.
With such an enduring legacy, it was only natural for companies to produce recreations of this sensational model. Numerous companies have tried their hand, most utilizing VW Flat-4 motors and other Beetle parts to keep costs down without diluting the car's performance or handling. In fact, the best recreations, which are built on custom tube frames and feature engine upgrades, front disc brakes, and other modern safety features, are actually quicker (not to mention safer) than the originals. As such, these cars are hugely entertaining to drive and are the perfect choice for a weekend runabout.
**Please note this vehicle is titled as a 1961 Volkswagen
