For Sale: 1987 Mercedes-Benz 300TD in Savannah, Georgia

Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1987 Mercedes-Benz 300TD Turbo. Finished in stunning Petrol Blue-Green Metallic, Mercedes imported fewer than 2,700 units - and for a single year only, making this the rarest variant of the 124 chassis in the US. Excellent condition inside and out; clean CarFax with no reported accidents. Well-documented maintenance history with over $15k in recent service (including a front suspension overhaul, A/C system rebuild and a replacement cylinder head). Life-long California car with an excellent underside and no known rust. Recent paint correction and ceramic coating along with clear UV-reducing tints for all windows. Factory "Gullideckel" 15-inch alloy wheels are wearing Michelins with 2021 date codes.

Interior is in remarkably well-preserved original condition. Palomino MB-Tex upholstery shows virtually no wear; excellent door panels, carpets, headliner, crack-free dash and zebrano wood trim. Completely stock aside from a W126 leather-wrapped steering wheel, blue-green floor mats that complement the exterior color, and a Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 46 DAB stereo (this head unit looks like a classic 1980s Blaupunkt cassette, but hidden behind the tape door are USB and aux inputs, plus bluetooth). Sunroof, windows, seat motors, climate control, and all gauges, switches and lights are working as they should. This is a very well-sorted car that has clearly always been cared for.

With proper maintenance, these cars will last multiple generations - and this is no doubt an heirloom-quality example. Under the hood is a 3.0L OM603 inline six turbo Diesel mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. The transmission was rebuilt at 173k miles; a new radiator was installed at 214k miles along with a compete brake job. Just last year the cylinder head was replaced (the new head is the #22 casting, an improved design which alleviates the overheating / cracking issues common to the original OM603 head). A front suspension overhaul was completed at the same time. A/C has been converted to R-134a and is blowing cold

This S124 runs and drives like new, and thanks to a lifetime of attentive service (plus a recent drivetrain and chassis refresh) is ready for its next 200k miles.
