Vehicle Description
*1965 ERA Cobra*There is little doubt that the Shelby Cobra is the
quintessential American sports car. Its English roots paired with a
powerful American V8, the Cobra took the fight to the Europeans and
won on the track time and time again. With original cars now
trading for deep in the 7-figure range, it is of little surprise
that numerous cottage industries have sprouted up producing
recreations of this famed car. While some are better than others,
it is widely accepted that those produced by ERA are some of the
best. This ERA 427 S/C is a perfect car to prove just how great
these cars are. Finished in the classic Shelby color scheme of deep
Indigo Blue with a pair of white over-the-top stripes, even up
close this car looks quite authentic and would be hard for anyone
other than an expert to spot the differences. The car checks all
the boxes that you look for on a 427 Cobra including side exhausts,
a LeMans-style quick fuel filler cap, chrome Talbot mirrors and
chrome roll hoop behind the driver. Of course, the car sits on a
set of Halibrand-style wheels with 3-ear knock offs in the center,
which are wrapped in a set of beefy Goodyear Eagle tires with white
lettering. The interior is typically sparse Cobra, with a pair of
leather-wrapped bucket seats and a large 3-spoke wood rimmed
steering wheel in front of the driver. White on black Stewart
Warner instrumentation is true to the original, as are the lapbelts
for both seats. Open the small driver's door and drop down into the
seat and the view out the hood is spectacular. The two large
pontoon fenders situated out in front of you with a hood scoop down
the center makes you feel like you are racing at LeMans even before
you've left your driveway.Of course no Cobra would be complete
without a serious engine sitting under the hood and this car is no
exception. A Ford Racing 427ci "Side-Oiler" V8 stays very true to
the original cars, and has been further enhanced with Cobra valve
covers. Sitting on top of the engine is a Holley 4bbl carburetor on
an aluminum intake with the classic "Turkey Pan" air box which is
meant to keep the hot under-hood air out. Power is then sent
through a 4-speed "Top Loader" gearbox - once again like the
original car- to the Jaguar-sourced rear end. The car has disc
brakes at all four corners with the rears situated in-board thanks
to the Jag hardware. The 427 Cobra is a wonderful car to drive with
straight line performance that rivals many modern cars. The looks,
the sound, the driving experience are all truly one of a kind, and
can be experienced here, in very true to original form, for a
fraction of the price of a legitimate Shelby.*Key Features* * 427ci
