Complete ground up build by Detroit Speed for Dale Jr. It was used
on the Dale Jr Hot Rod Tour where it traveled the country in a rig
with Dale's race car. There are 350 pictures of the build on DSE's
website. Once you look at the pictures, you'll have a better
appreciation for all the work that went into this car. It also has
its own brochure; it was the feature car on the cover of Camaro
Performers magazine and featured in Chevy Rumble magazine. This is
a high-quality precision build that would cost every bit of a
quarter million dollars to duplicate.
We just acquired this car back from the person we sold it to. He
put less than 1,000 miles on it, upgraded the speakers and had the
car wrapped. he says the paint is still outstanding under the wrap,
that is why he wrapped it to protect the paint. The wrap was
professionally installed and can be removed without damaging the
car. That is why it looks different than in the magazines, the last
2 pictures show it painted when we last owned it.
EXTERIOR: It looks amazing, DS prides itself on the right stance.
Excellent fit and finish! Laser beam straight, the gaps are
precise, doors shut like new. There's no rust or damage whatsoever.
It has a cowl hood and spoilers. Deleted emblems for a clean look.
It was recently professionally wrapped so nice it looks like a
beautiful paint job. Under the wrap is as show quality Glasurit
paint with a shadow gray over a Cortez silver. It's broken up with
custom painted flames with a marble texture and hand pinstripe
outline. Of course, all the stainless trim, bumpers, marker lights,
mirrors and handles were replaced. Billet taillight bezels, DS
electric headlight conversion and halogen high intensity
headlights. All the weather strips and seals were replaced. Budnik
Diamond Forged wheels: 18x10 in front, 18x12 in back. They are
wrapped in BFG G-Force performance tires.
INTERIOR: The interior is lined with Dynamat sound deadener. All
new wiring harness throughout. Premium square loop carpet with
embroidered mats. New door panels, armrests and handles. New
headliner, visors, mirror, and dome light. Recaro sport seats, they
slide way back for a tall person. The back seat is upholstered to
match. New seat belts. Vintage Air electronic climate control
system with vertical control panel. Limited edition Dale Jr Hot Rod
Tour gauges in a DS metal instrument panel. New console with 12
volt receptacles. Powder coated tilt column with a Budnick steering
wheel. Alpine CD stereo with aux plug. 4 speakers, an amp and a
subwoofer were recently added. Everything was replaced, fits and
functions like it should as well.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Mast Motorsports KS3 stroked to a 416, it was
Dyno tuned at 590 hp and 554 lbs of torque. Custom fabricated valve
covers and cold air box. In front is a black hard coat front runner
drive system. DS stainless headers. Vintage Air Magnum heat and air
system. It runs cool with a Be Cool aluminum radiator and twin
electric fans. DS Select a Speed wiper system. Custom radiator
cover, billet hinges and fender supports. Everything was installed
neatly.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Under the trunk lid and jamb are painted slick.
Inside is all clean metal neatly spatter painted. The Gel battery
is relocated to the trunk and has a billet bracket and a battery
tender. Stereo equipment has recently been added and is displayed
very nicely.
UNDERSIDE: Detroit Speed chassis! Upfront is their hydroformed
subframe, rack and pinion steering, tubular control arms, splined
sway bar, double adjustable coilover shocks and custom spindles. DS
frame connectors are countersunk in the floors and welded in place.
In back is a DS Quadralink setup with relocated tubular control
arms, coilover adjustable shocks and custom sway bar. Custom made
fat dual exhaust with x-pipe and Flowmaster mufflers. Baer brake
system with drilled and slotted disc at all four wheels. Custom
fuel system. Looking up at the motor it's all aluminum and has a
high torque starter. TKO 600 Tremec 5-speed trans with a
Centerforce billet flywheel, dual friction clutch, Quick Time bell
housing and McLeod hydraulic master cylinder. Dyno Tech drive shaft
leads back to a Mark Williams 9 inch rear with an aluminum center
section and a 3.83 posi gear. The sheet metal was completely
replaced and sealed with black chip guard paint. DS mini tubs were
installed to make room for some wide meats.
SERVICE: We inspected the car and replaced the reverse light switch
and charged the a/c.
Only 4,235 miles since built. This is an amazing piece of
machinery. Yeah, it looks awesome but when you drive it is when
you're smile will be from ear to ear! You won't get an opportunity
like this again to get a Pro Touring car with this much
provenance.
I, Jay Grams, take pride in personally writing the descriptions for
virtually every car for about the last 30 years now. A significant
amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my
professional impression of the vehicle. Our salesmen are happy to
assist with descriptions and making sure your questions are
answered. One great suggestion is letting us do a walk around video
that explains the car's condition in detail. **These cars are
displayed in a museum. If interested in a particular car, make an
appointment with a salesman to see that car. Without an appointment
there is an admission fee to enter the showroom. If you buy a car,
your admission will be refunded, and you will be given a 1 year
membership.
