The 1978 Ford F-150 is not just a truck; it's a symbol of rugged
American ingenuity, a testament to the era of bold designs and
powerful engines. Born from the assembly lines of the Ford Motor
Company, this classic vehicle emerged during a time of change in
the automotive world, where utility met comfort, and trucks began
to enter the suburban driveways as family vehicles. Among its many
accolades, the '78 F-150 holds the distinction of being part of the
series that catapulted Ford to become the best selling truck in
America, a title it has held for decades. Thx metrommp.com
For auction, a 1978 Ford F150 long bed pickup truck showing 99,080
miles, but the true miles are unknown. The truck presents in fair
condition with some obvious age and exposure, but all components
and trim are in place and a bed cap is included. This truck has
keys but would not crank.
Exterior
Ford's distinctive two tone coverage adorns this styleside truck
with single stage Dark Brown Metallic around Light Tan in
alternating runs of color. There are some minor dents but no major
ones, rusted edges throughout, true patina, and some light surface
rust on the hood. But the grille and grille surround are fully
intact on the face of this now classic truck, with some rust
appearing on the chrome bumper. Out back, a heavy duty steel bumper
includes diamond plating on top and a tow hitch under a clean
tailgate. The bed is topped with a weathered but complete
fiberglass cap with windows on each side. Large trailer mirrors
extend wide on the pickup and a variety of mudflaps likely helped
prevent rust over the years.
Interior
We'll call it rust colored but the door panels are plastic, a bit
tired and weathered but otherwise complete. The brown and cloth
bench is worn and torn, especially the lower and all interior
hardware shows some surface rust, including the seat belt insert
and shifter stalk. The steering wheel is in decent shape, the dash
pad is cracked, and the instrument cluster is complete with some
oxidation of the various knobs including those on the AM radio. The
simulated burlwood panel on the glove box prevails, missing its
Custom emblem, while the floor is covered with an aging and
cracking rubber mat.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a weathered 300ci inline six cylinder with a
1-barrel carburetor and a C6 3-speed automatic which routes power
to the coveted Ford 9" with 2.75 gears.
Undercarriage
A single exhaust carries a stock style muffler while brakes are
divided as power disc up front and power drums in the back.
Suspension consists of radius arm and coil springs up front and the
typical leaf springs in the back.
Drive-Ability
This truck has keys but would not crank.
