For Sale: 1971 GMC 1/2 Ton Pickup in Pierre, South Dakota

Vehicle Description

23,000 miles on remanufactured 350. 4WD K10 Custom. Much has been done during the 18 years i have owned this, to pull this truck back into "ship shape." You really should play the short video of the exhaust sound.....SWEET!

I know some folks are using "Chevy" or "Chevrolet"  in their searches, but of course the chevies and gms really are the exact same DNA....just badging differences, grill changes. You wont find a chevy in this condition for less....

Why am I selling? I have too many vehicles! I do drive them enough to keep them fresh, but they should go to someone who will really enjoy showing off a piece of automotive history. This truck gets thumbs up from  other drivers, wherever I take it.

Here is all the work that has been done on it. 1. rims and tires   2. starter   3. front rotors   4. brakes  5. U joints  6. electric fan   7.  carb     8. edelbrock intake   9.   electric ignition   10. Air cleaner    11. competition cam and timing chain   12. wires and plugs   13.  tach   14. rear axle seals   15. harmonic balancer   16. valve covers    17. clutch rebuild...smooth uptake, no slip, no judder!   18   door cards and armrests  19.  paint and weatherstrip (paint is good but not perfect)   20. exhaust   21. lots of body trim parts   22.  moved fuel tank between frame rails in rear of truck (original tank comes with the truck in case you want to change back) and fuel lines   23. rhino lining   24. new grill parts   25.  leather bench-bucket seats in great shape   26.  master cylinder   27.  water pump   28. distributor coil and valve covers  29.  radiator   29.  alt belt, power steering belt,  rear drive shaft and spline and u joint  30. front drive shaft   31.  drag link and leaf springs   32.  heater hose

In 2023 I had my mechanic pull the engine, replace all the seals, gaskets, hoses, paint the block...the works. Compression can be seen on the yellow receipt....all 8 cylinders at or within 3 lbs. of 150 PSI. IT DOES NOT LEAK OR BURN OIL!

Lst night i added multiple photos of the frame and bed.....rock solid. Bits of rust on the sills as shown in the photos; all easily fixed. Check out the photos taken looking down the sides of the truck...straight as an arrow. As is the frame, so i susect its never been hit.

Hagerty valuation tool says $23,000, in good condition. But that did not draw offers, so i reduced it to $17500. Now $15,000! Worth every dime of it. Below that i may just keep it. We shall see. I change the oil regularly and keep track of the mileage. This truck virtually never got out of the garage unless the weather is perfect...garaged for all 18 years. Almost no rust and ZERO RATTLE.

I have receipts back to 2006 and they go with the truck. Put an aftermarket gas tank in the back, between the rails. Gas port in the very corner, driver side. Still have the original tank which goes with the truck.   Note, the original gas tank was still in the cab when the prior owners painted it, and they did not remove the tank for paint, thus the paint behind the seat is still factory green, as is the engine bay.

I am confident that a buyer can come here and drive it home on day one. I made two trips, one to denver and another to minneapolis...seven hour drives with no hiccups! But Might be easier to hire a car hauler....i just sold my dad's 1965 olds and the buyer only paid $1200 to haul it from South Dakota all the way to Pennsylvania!

Update, 9/8/25. I took the truck out on the interstate to run off the remaining summer's gas.  Alignment, dead on! Tires perfectly balanced and did not lose a pound of pressure all year. Brakes are good. Disc brakes in front.  Oil pressure strong and steady. Coolant cool and steady. Battery charging as it should. The gas guage is right on, since i ran it down to 1/16th of a tank, and did not run out of fuel. Put 15 gals of 91 octane back in.

Its a twenty footer, but very pretty for the price.  the paint job was before i owned it or i would have gone with show paint. Oh well, then it would cost a lot more, right?
