GR Auto Gallery is excited to present this 1940 Hudson Traveler, a
rare prewar classic finished in the original deep black with tan
cloth bench seats. Its graceful lines are accented by chrome
bumpers, black steel wheels with chrome hubcaps, and wide whitewall
tires that perfectly capture the elegance of the era. From the hood
ornament to the subtle factory details, this Traveler embodies the
dignified style that made Hudson a standout in American motoring
history.
Under the hood sits the original 175ci I6, paired with a 3-speed
manual transmission. This drivetrain has been thoughtfully
maintained and refreshed over the years, with recent work including
new pistons and rings, a rebuilt carburetor, rebuilt starter and
generator, rebuilt fuel pump, new plug wires, and a fresh tune-up.
Additional work includes four new shocks, new U-joints, a new
muffler and tailpipe, and a professionally cleaned radiator. The
head has been removed, milled, and fitted with a new gasket,
ensuring this classic runs as smooth as it looks.
The interior remains largely original, with a rare factory clock,
fuel, temperature, oil pressure, and charge gauges, along with an
analog clock, all evoking the atmosphere of a true prewar driving
experience. Service stickers from decades past remain on the inside
of the driver's door, adding to the authenticity. This Traveler is
manual in every sense, from windows to locks, offering a direct and
engaging connection to its mechanical roots.
Having spent nearly four decades in a museum from 1976 to 2014,
this Hudson has been preserved with care, carrying both historical
significance and a large folder of service records to document its
journey. It's a true survivor that blends originality with
dependable roadworthiness.
