The 1950 Ford Custom Deluxe convertible is a classic American car
known for its post war styling and comfortable ride. It features a
239 cubic inch V8 engine producing 100 horsepower, paired with a
3-speed manual transmission. The convertible top was manually
operated. Hagerty notes that it was a symbol of post war prosperity
and remains popular among collectors today.
For auction, a 1950 Ford Custom convertible that presents in barn
find condition. Exposed the elements, the paint, body, and interior
are in rough shape but there might be some usable or restorable
parts to salvage.
Exterior
In its heyday, it must've looked great in its coat of medium blue
paint, now reduced to faded, stained, and rusted conditions. Some
body panels have rusted away, in particular the rear panels while
rust spots and surface rust are found throughout the exterior. The
windows are intact and while rusty, the broad grille and bumper are
still present and the back bumper is straight. There are some trim
pieces remaining and the frame to the convertible top is there, but
the material is badly tattered.
Interior
White door panels are present but heavily weathered and the seats
are dirty and covered with differing materials. The black steering
wheel and its horn ring are mostly intact and while the dash is
rusted and flaking, the gauges and some knobs are there, albeit
badly weathered.
Drivetrain
The rusted engine we see is the 239ci flathead V8, once rated at
100 horsepower and this one still wears its 2-barrel carburetor.
It's backed by a 3-speed manual transmission with power going to
the rear axle and 3.73 gears.
Undercarriage
This car would be equipped with four wheel drum brakes behind the
15-inch wheels and a single exhaust would find a stock style
muffler. Suspension included coil springs up front and leaf springs
in the back.
Drive-Ability
Even if it was in running condition, there are no keys associated
with this shoebox Ford.
