Vehicle Description
1997 Ford F250 Extended Cab Heavy Duty Short Bed Pickup
"For nearly two decades, the Ford F-Series has been the best
selling pickup truck in the United States. For more than half that
period of time, it's been the best selling vehicle, period.
Understandably, Ford execs were a bit hesitant to completely
overhaul their Golden Child. After all, the F-Series, which hadn't
seen substantial engineering improvements since 1980, seemed to be
selling just fine as it was. Reality was, though, that deadlines
for some stringent truck standards were approaching fast, and the
F-Series was getting long in the tooth. The redesign was approved."

For consignment, a 1997 Ford F250 extended cab heavy duty short bed
with a title verified 83,909 actual miles. This is a ninth
generation F-series with the towing package and presenting in a
nice color combination, clean inside and out.
Exterior
Last of the OBS, the square body here is coated in an attractive
Oxford White over Light Saddle with two stage coverage that has all
the signs of a well cared for ride. The running boards on each side
share the saddle hue and help gain entry into the high truck,
perched on 16-inch wheels with a big gap to the wheel opening. Wide
gaps in the chrome grille vacuums incoming air and what's missed
heads over the long, flat hood, up and over the extended cab
flanked by trailer mirrors. Chrome bumpers bookend the long truck
and a sliding rear window looks out over the bed which has a liner
and signs of usage but is undamaged. Our consignor states that a
fifth wheel plate and holes in the bed still exist. Some scratches
on the tailgate and rear step are the only imperfections we note on
the exterior.
Interior
Opening the door, we're met with Ford's rather elaborate
combination of Mocha materials including vinyl, plastic, and carpet
on doors that have two storage bins built in, courtesy lights,
armrests, and integrated speakers and both doors present cleanly.
The cloth seats are in nice shape too with a middle seat doubling
as an armrest when not occupied. In back, a modest bench seat in
the same material and condition is great for people and packages.
Contrasting black features begin with the steering wheel and the
dash surround where black faced gauges use white needles in a basic
configuration that is tidy in its analogue simplicity. An
AM/FM/Cassette player is in the dash middle over a three dial A/C
panel. Tan carpet is protected by a full width rubber mat and the
fleece-like headliner and visors are in great shape, completing our
tour of this clean interior.
Drivetrain
Save your engine detailing for the show car, this powerplant is
dusty and we're okay with that. It's a 7.5 liter V8, fuel injected
and cranking out 245 horsepower. It's married to an E4OD 4-speed
automatic transmission that sends power to the Ford 10.25" rear
with 4.10 gears. Power brakes are employed as front disc and rear
drum.
Undercarriage
Driver quality conditions prevail underneath with lots of surface
rust and a bit of road grime, but otherwise dry and clear.
Suspension consists of radial arms and coil springs up front and
leaf springs in the rear. We note some newer bushing on the front
sway bar. A single exhaust runs through a stock style muffler and
exits via twin steel pipes behind the rear wheel.
Drive-Ability
We climb up for a commanding view of the road and turn the key to
bring the big 7.5 to life. She tracks straight and true and
acceleration is quite good, especially without the extra weight of
an 4WD system. If there's one thing we've noticed, this generation
Ford truck, when properly maintained, results in functional items
rarely failing and we find all items operate as intended on this
big white rig. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these
functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot
guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your
purchase.
Work trucks are synonymous with the car hobby. You're going to want
to tow your car to a show occasionally, pick up barn finds, haul
parts, hit the race track, and so much more. If you've heard the
complaints over newer trucks and their engine issues, (cam sensor,
anyone?), you'll understand why these older trucks are in high
demand. Our consignor towed with this truck and now you can too
with all the confidence Ford toughness instills.
