This 1965 Ford Thunderbird is a Landau coupe example that was delivered new to Harold Turner, Inc. in Birmingham, Michigan, in December 1964. The car is finished in Patrician Green with a black vinyl–covered Landau hardtop roof over white leather upholstery. Power is supplied by a 390ci V8 linked with a Cruise-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission and an Equa-Lock limited-slip differential. Further equipment includes a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a reclining front passenger’s seat, a swing-away steering wheel, and an AM/FM radio along with rear fender skirts and 15″ steel wheels with tri-spoke Thunderbird covers. Acquired by the seller in 2017, this Thunderbird is now offered with a 1964 invoice, an owner’s manual, a shop manual, partial service records, a car cover, and a clean Michigan title in the seller’s name.
The car left the factory finished in Patrician Green (U) with a black vinyl–covered Landau hardtop roof and was repainted under previous ownership. A wrap-around bumper is accompanied by quad headlights up front, while a pinched-loop-style bumper surrounds sequential taillights out back. Further details include a faux hood scoop, gun-sight front turn signals, rear fender skirts, and dual exhaust outlets. The seller notes that the black vinyl hardtop cover is faded and the right-side Thunderbird script is missing.
The 15″ steel wheels wear tri-spoke Thunderbird covers and are mounted with 215/75 Cordovan Centron tires. The car came equipped from the factory with power steering, and braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums.
The car left the factory fitted with front bucket seats and a rear bench trimmed in White Pearl leather with Aqua accents (Q7). The driver’s seat is power-adjustable, and the reclining front passenger’s seat features an adjustable headrest. Blue carpets line the floors, while simulated wood trim accents the instrument panel, center console, door panels, and rear quarter trim panels. Additional equipment includes an AM/FM radio, and power windows. The SelectAire air conditioning system and MagicAire heater/defroster are inoperative, the right-front kick panel is cracked, and holes are noted in the headliner. The cabin was re-trimmed under previous ownership, and the seller notes that the right-rear window mechanism works intermittently.
The two-spoke steering wheel is mounted to a swing-away column and frames a horizontal-sweep 120-mph speedometer along with gauges for oil pressure, fuel level, coolant temperature, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows 71k miles, approximately 1k of which have been added under current ownership. The analog clock does not keep time, and the right turn signal does not self-cancel.
The 390ci V8 is fitted with a four-barrel carburetor and was factory rated at 300 horsepower and 427 lb-ft of torque. Work under current ownership has included rebuilding the carburetor in 2019 as well as replacing the fuel pump in 2019. The passenger side exhaust manifold and both motor mounts were replaced in December, 2024. The seller notes vacuum and oil leaks.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Cruise-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission and an optional Equa-Lock limited-slip differential. The seller notes rust on the underbody.
The included 1964 Ford invoice lists factory equipment and colors along with a total suggested retail price of $5,671.30. An owner’s manual and other model literature will also accompany the car.
