One of only 746 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Targas built for the U.S.
market in 1991, this stunning Black over Black 964 model is
representative of the first production Porsche available with
all-wheel drive (AWD). According to Excellence Magazine, this
model, designated the 964, "provided drivers with a compelling
combination of classic and modern 911 elements. On the one hand,
the car's mostly old-school look and air-cooled flat-six engine
speaks to Porsche's past. On the other hand, the 964's updated
mechanicals make it far more comfortable to drive."
This four-owner, 92,571-mile Carrera 4 has been well cared for and
has been completely restored cosmetically as well as mechanically.
Extensive restoration work was done over the course of three years
so that the next owner could enjoy trouble-free driving for years
to come. From 2020 through 2023, the restoration work included: a
complete window out repaint, all new interior, and rubber seals. A
complete transmission rebuild by Joe Anselmo Motorsports, LLC that
involved new synchros, pinion shaft, main shaft, bearings, gaskets,
and shims; the air conditioning system was serviced by B & F Auto
Air during which the expansion valve, passenger blend door
actuator, and drier were replaced, and the system recharged with
R12 refrigerant; the engine was rebuilt by Air Cooled Garage,
including the case align bored and reassembled with a billet 964
camshaft, the crankshaft polished, case halves mated and torqued to
proper specifications, valves reground and rockers reconditioned,
pistons and cylinders cleaned, end gaps set, new rings installed,
new chain boxes, ramps, and tensioners installed; and final
inspection was completed by Vision Motorsports and driven 1,450
miles since the restoration was completed.
The non-metallic Black exterior paint is stunning, complemented by
integrated front fog lights, the removable Targa roof panel and
satin-black Targa bar, a speed-activated rear spoiler, the
distinctive reflective stripe between the taillights, unique to
Porsche's AWD models, and Continental Extreme Contact performance
tires mounted on silver-finished 16" Design 90 wheels with
monochromatic center caps. The undercarriage is solid and rust-free
with no corrosion.
The Black Partial-Leather interior features front impact airbags,
distinctive red piping that outlines plush black carpeting, 8-way
power seats, cruise control, automatic climate control, power
windows, cold air conditioning, and a Continental AM/FM radio with
front speakers and includes the original Blaupunkt Reno SQR 46
AM/FM/Cassette.
The 3.6L air-cooled flat-six engine (M64) is rated at 247 HP and
228 lb-ft of torque with a 5-speed manual transmission, performance
of 0-60 MPH in 5.5 seconds, and a top speed of 162 MPH, which is
effortless with four-wheel disc brakes. Complete with an owner's
manual, records, and a space-saver spare tire.
