For Sale: 1967 Plymouth GTX in Concord, North Carolina

Vehicle Description

If style points were being awarded for 1960s muscle cars, then this 1967 Plymouth GTX 440 would be at the top of the list. A sub-model of the Belvedere, the GTX debuted in 1967 and took everything Mopar fans liked about the base car and ratcheted it up to muscle car status. Fully repainted in its original Buffed Silver Metallic and complementing dual full-length black racing stripes, this sleek hardtop looks like a speeding bullet from any angle.

Inside, we find out why the GTX was oftentimes referred to as "the gentleman's muscle car." Decked out in its original black vinyl, its chrome trim gives this car an upmarket vibe. Its three-spoke, power-assisted steering wheel sits just ahead of a five-pod rectangular gauge cluster, featuring a large, easy-to-read 150 mph speedometer that takes center stage, while a pair of auxiliary gauges flank it on either side. An original-looking AM/FM radio works well, while a rotary-knob-based setup is used for HVAC controls to keep things simple and easy.

Under that expansive hood, we find a (believed) original 440 cubic-inch Super Commando V-8 engine. Topped with a single four-barrel Carter carburetor, this big V-8 made an advertised and impressive 375 horsepower at 4,600 rpm and 480 pound-feet of torque at 3,200 rpm from the factory. That massive power is routed through an also (believed) original A727 TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transmission before heading out to an 8.75-inch rear end that houses a set of 3.23:1 gears. Those ponies are transferred to the pavement via a set of 14-inch Magnum 500 wheels shod in 205/75R-14 Redline tires.

This 1967 Plymouth GTX 440 comes equipped with a factory Hemi Suspension Package. Featuring heavy-duty shocks, six-leaf rear springs, front torsion bars, and ball joints, this optional setup enables the GTX to handle more aggressively and ride better than many of its competitors of the time
