When it comes to the idea of what a prototypical muscle car is,
there are a handful of vehicles that have what it takes to fit that
bill. This 1969 Dodge Charger R/T 440 is undoubtedly one of those
cars. Decked out in a head-turning Go Mango Orange, this mid-year
Charger sets itself apart from its two second-gen siblings with a
split front grille and wide taillights. Well-documented, this
Golden Age beauty is ready to make a grand entrance anywhere it
goes.
Inside, we find a nice-looking Saddle vinyl interior. Dual bucket
seats separated by a woodgrain-trimmed center console. A
three-spoke wood-rimmed and power-assisted steering wheel sits just
ahead of six Intelitronix digital gauges. The larger tachometer and
speedometer sit to the left, while four smaller auxiliary gauges
are located closer to the passenger side. An AM/FM/CD Pioneer head
unit complete with Bluetooth connectivity sits under the passenger
side seat, while a digital control box is mounted under the
dashboard for easy access. As a bonus, the original radio can be
plugged in and is functional if so desired.
Under that expansive hood, we are treated to a massive 440
cubic-inch V-8 engine. Topped with a single four-barrel Edelbrock
carburetor feeding into a Mopar Wedge intake manifold, this big
block has had its deck machined clean to ensure excellent
compression. The ignition, coil, and distributor are all MSD
products. At the same time, a dual exhaust and aftermarket mufflers
manage spent gases, allowing this motor to snarl in a way only
Mopar muscle can. Power is routed through an A727 Torqueflite
three-speed automatic transmission before heading out to an
8.75-inch rear end that transfers those ponies to the pavement via
a set of polished five-spoke REV wheels shod in 255/60R-15 Cooper
Cobra tires, while up front, a narrower set of 215/65R-15 Cobras
handles steering duties.

This 1969 Dodge Charger R/T 440 rides on an A-Arm front suspension,
while a traditional live axle leaf spring setup is used out back.
An upgraded set of four-wheel power disc brakes, along with an
improved master cylinder, is courtesy of Wilwood, allowing this
Golden Age muscle car to rein in speed far more efficiently than
anyone could have imagined half a century ago. There aren't many
cars that have the power and street cred to vie for the honor of
being the face of the muscle car movement, so if you want to get
your hands on one that can, don't wait another second. Call
