Vehicle Description
2014 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG G Wagon
"The luxury SUV segment includes a long list of modern choices,
though the 2014 Mercedes-Benz G-Class, which has been in production
for more than 30 years, remains one of the most coveted four
wheelers sold today. In fact, the G63 AMG was the best selling AMG
product in the U.S. for 2013, despite faster and more agile
offerings from Benz's performance division." MotorTrend.com
For consignment, a 2014 Mercedes Benz G63 AMG G Wagon with a title
verified 55,709 actual miles. Most G wagons are well cared for and
this black beauty is a one owner example that's always been
garaged, serviced by Mercedes Benz, hand washed only, and never
smoked in. AMG is the standard bearer for luxury and performance,
and it's combined here in a capable SUV that retains classic
utilitarian lines that will never go out of style.
Exterior
Gloriously boxy, our G wagon presents in Obsidian Black Metallic,
enhanced by tinted windows and 20-inch five spoke wheels in black,
trimmed in silver which goes well with the polished side molding
and exposed metal of the running boards. Up front, a chrome brush
guard protects the front while the spare wheel cover mounted on the
back has a reflective polished rim that adds to the overall shine
factor. Clear markers are perched on the fender tops above the
projector beam headlights and LED driving lights on the face. A
vestigial feature from its military days are the tail lights, small
and distinctly low on the back of the rig, over the black bumper
with rear fog light and auxiliary light embedded. The paint and
trim are fantastic on the truck and the only imperfections are some
scuffs on a bumper corner.
Interior
Quality materials begin at the door panels where black plastic
mixes with leather wrapped handles, a carbon fiber faceplate on the
seat panel, and diamond stitched Titanium Gray Pearl inserts. That
same diamond gray serves as the inserts for the bucket seats up
front and the three seating positions on the rear bench, all
bordered by Designo Black leather and all in great shape. Even the
rear door wears some of the diamond stitched material while the
cargo area itself is protected by a Mercedes rubber mat. For the
driver, modern Mercedes switches begin on the steering wheel which
is wrapped in black Nappa leather, leading to the ultimately
efficient and clear gauge cluster up front with a digital screen in
the middle more akin to Apple than the DOS days. The center stack
is topped with a large screen followed by carbon fiber trim
surrounding a vast array of switches that control drive selection
and the entertainment center which includes an AM/FM/Multi CD
player with navigation, XM capabilities, and BlueTooth. An A/C
control panel is at the bottom and a rear view camera is also
connected to the screen. A short shifter controls the transmission
electronically, based in carbon fiber, and a dial at the front of
the armrest enables the driver to scroll through features in the
screen. Fine black carpet covers the floor and the headliner is in
pristine condition and surrounds a sunroof and overhead
console.
Drivetrain
The heart of the matter is a 5.5 liter Bi-Turbo V8 rated at an
astounding 536 horsepower, fuel injected of course and mated to a
Daimler-Benz 7G-tronic 7-speed automatic transmission. 4.11 gears
are nested in front and rear differentials and power disc brakes
are found at all four wheels. Other than some dust, the engine bay
is clean and dominated by an AMG branded plastic shroud over most
of the motor.
Undercarriage
A robust truck chassis frames the underside, a bit dusty and with
some road spray, but lacking any rust or errant fluids. Ball and
claw axles are accompanied by multi link coil spring suspension at
both ends and the dual exhaust runs through original equipment
mufflers before turning east and west and exiting out each side
through twin tips ahead of the rear wheels. Cool factor: 10.
Drive-Ability
The upright and lofty throne from which you pilot this truck is
empowering, instilling confidence in your ability to navigate
trails, traffic jams, and the Whole Foods parking lot on a
Saturday. Exhaust notes are worth the price of admission though
with the windows up, you'll be mostly buffered from external
noises, but the subtle engine growl still comes through. Surefooted
and powerful, this luxury SUV performed flawlessly during our test
and all operational items worked as intended. While Classic Auto
Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of
our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working
at the time of your purchase.
Stately, well built, and capable, this Swiss Army knife of vehicles
would be at home in Del Mar or in the drive thru at Del Taco and
everything in between. It coddles drivers and occupants alike and
gives you a bird's eye view of the road, regardless of conditions.
This is the ultimate luxury SUV that will never go out of style and
11 years later, the new G-Wagons don't look all that different. No
one will know you paid of current MSRP!
