A "race car for the road" is perhaps the phrase most overused by
car reviewers unfamiliar with the immediacy, lightness, and direct
nature of a true race car. An "R" version of a popular GT car? A
highly enjoyable track day weapon yet compromised when compared to
its racer sibling should they meet. The BAC Mono, so named for its
single-seat configuration, suffers no such deficit-it is built for
pure, unfiltered performance, uncompromised, and engineered from
the ground up to deliver the visceral intensity of motorsport on
public roads.
This special-order 2019 BAC Mono was originally sold via Manhattan
Motor Cars in December 2021 with 34 miles on the odometer. A build
sheet available with the car reveals the numerous bespoke touches
were chosen that included an Ocean Blue-tinted carbon fiber
exterior and Metallic Gold BAC Design Livery flashes that frame the
visible front suspension through the bodywork, travel fore to aft
down the side pod flanks, and highlight the trailing edge of the
rear wing top plane that features a stealthy MONO script woven in
carbon fiber. The optional factory Ultimate Protection Film helps
to ensure the Mono is no worse for wear after a spirited drive.
Additional options listed on the build sheet include lower body
finished in visible carbon fiber, Gold interior stitching, carbon
ceramic brakes, and de-cat exhaust.
The single seater itself is an exquisite exercise in the beauty of
functional aerodynamics that funnels oncoming air into channels and
cavities to both cool and provide downforce and often both at the
same time. Power is provided by a lightweight 2.5-liter naturally
aspirated engine producing 305 horsepower put to the rear wheels
through a sequential paddle shift six-speed Hewland gearbox.
Perhaps best of all is the careful and measured use this particular
BAC Mono has seen since production and delivery to the United
States. It is offered with only 90 delivery and test miles at the
time of catalog and features a recent major service in May 2024
that included a fresh battery, fluid changes, and new spark plugs.
Furthermore, this road-legal single seater is offered with its BAC
Mono specification sheet and a digital owner's manual to help make
the most of this otherworldly experience whether it takes its
fortunate occupant on the open road, racetrack, or both.
