The 1941 Dodge WC series troop carrier refers to the light military
trucks produced by Dodge during World War II, specifically designed
for transporting troops, weapons, and supplies. These trucks, part
of the broader Dodge WC series, were designated as "Weapons
Carriers", (WC), and were crucial for the US military's logistical
efforts.
Up for auction is a 1941 Dodge WC-1 ton troop carrier with an
unreadable odometer and unknown true mileage. This rig presents
very well with what looks like a fresher paint job and graphics and
all components in place. The engine does not crank.
Exterior
The olive drab green paint here shines a bit more than was probably
regulation, but looks good and is accompanied by crisp white
graphics including Army stars and serial numbers. From the side, it
looks like a stake bed truck but the bed contains two rows of wood
benches and the stakes are actually the seat backs. A perfectly
vertical windshield rises from behind the long nose, flanked by
enormous fenders over the heavy duty 16-inch wheels and behind a
brush guard, massive winch, and unstoppable bumper. Vintage tools,
all colored keyed with green, are belted onto the rear panel.
Interior
Clean canvas covers the bomber style bucket seats which leads to
the green steel dash with a combination of vintage gauges and some
SunPro gauges from well beyond 1941. A rubber coated mat covers the
floor while a leather panel covers the transmission hump from which
the shifted and handbrake rise. Hinges for the tilting windshield
reside on the A-pillars and a three spoke black steering wheel with
integrated finger grooves presents to the driver.
Drivetrain
A relatively clean engine is found under the hood and it's a 218ci
L-head inline 6 cylinder rated at 85 horsepower and fed fuel
through a 1-barrel carburetor. Behind it, a 3-speed manual
transmission sending power to front and rear axles with 4.11 gears.
Drum brakes are what's used on all four wheels.
Undercarriage
A single exhaust wears a stock style muffler and leaf springs
occupy front and rear axles.
Drive-Ability
Unfortunately, the engine does not crank.
