The Dodge WC Series was a range of military vehicles produced from
1940 until 1945. The WC Series was available in a wide number of
configurations built on 4x2, 4x4, or 6x6 drivetrains. Three main
platforms were available: 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, and 1 1/2 ton. The
flexibility of the WC Series allowed the trucks to be used for over
52 variants, all of which were powered by an inline six engine
ranging in displacement from 3.6L to 4.0L.
Up for auction is a 1941 WC-1 ton truck showing 1,712 miles, but
the true miles are unknown. It presents in good condition with some
obvious aging but some straight steel and even paint. There are no
keys associated with the truck.
Exterior
Olive drab fully dominates the inside and out, keeping things
official and somewhat camouflaged. It's a tall truck and wide
running boards help with both ingress to the cab and access to the
bed while wide fenders flow over the 16-inch wheels with lots of
room in between. The stakes along the bed are also green of course,
and so are the planks within the bed but they have faded to a
lighter hue while the sidewalls remain clean. Up front, a full
brush guard fronts the grille and protects the outboard headlights
perched on the fender ends and diminutive side mirrors top long
thin stalks on the edge of the doors. A fifth wheel is mounted on
the passenger side running board and in general, the exterior is in
very good condition.
Interior
No nonsense inner doors are painted steel and in nice shape,
leading to a pair of bucket seats, cloth covered and worn but
intact. Up front, it's all green with a few contrasting black
gauges ahead of yes, the green steering wheel and column. A tall
shifter and handbrake rise from the floor which is covered loosely
with a worn rubber mat and the sidewalls are finished with brown
vinyl panels.
Drivetrain
A combination of newer and old pieces are in the engine bay, and
most are old. This is a 230ci L-head inline 6 cylinder fueled by a
1-barrel carburetor and mated to a 3-speed manual transmission.
Power is routed to both axles, each with 4.89 gears, and drum
brakes are employed front and rear.
Undercarriage
A single exhaust flows through a stock style muffler and leaf
springs make up the suspension of the front and rear.
Drive-Ability
There are no keys associated with this military vehicle.
