The Ford L-series is a range of commercial trucks that were
assembled and marketed by Ford between 1970 and 1998. The first
dedicated Class 8 conventional truck developed by the company, the
L-Series was colloquially called the "Louisville Line", denoting
the Kentucky Truck Plant that assembled the trucks. Slotted above
the medium duty F-Series, the L-Series was produced over a wide
variety of applications through its production life, including both
straight trucks and semi tractors. 1990 marked the last year of the
round headlights.
Up for auction is this 1990 Ford L700 flatbed truck showing 55,486
miles, but the true miles are unknown. This truck is retired from
its working years and evidence of service to its owners is obvious.
The rig does not have keys.
Exterior
White paint covers the cab, flat bed, back rack, and rear mounted
tank and is replete with patina including corrosion, surface rust,
and just good old accumulated dirt. Everything is intact, from the
big grille and bumper, to the amber turn signals posted on the
fenders to the enormous trailer mirrors on the side. The bed has
robust wooden planks serving as sidewalls and steel cage storage
boxes are mounted underneath. 22.5-inch wheels are also painted
white and are ten lug heavy duty units.
Interior
Plastic door panels on the white steel doors are faded, the black
vinyl bucket seats are torn and worn, and the dash pad is dry and
cracked. Considering this was someone's office for a bit of time,
it's spacious and must have been comfortable. The basic dash has
simple square gauges under a row of indicator lights in plastic
framing, dusty but complete and intact. The floor is covered with a
fitted rubber mat and we note that the windshield is cracked.
Drivetrain
Under the forward tilting hood is fuel injected 7.0 liter, four
valve, inline eight cylinder diesel engine mated to an Allison
AT545 5-speed automatic transmission that routes power to the
Rockwell axle in back. Air brakes are onboard with drums at all
four wheels.
Undercarriage
A single exhaust meets a stock style muffler and suspension
consists of heavy duty leaf springs front and rear.
Drive-Ability
This heavy truck has no keys associated with it.
