The Ford L7000 was a heavy duty truck model produced by Ford, and
it was commonly used as a chassis for street sweepers, particularly
those manufactured by companies like Tymco and Elgin. These
sweepers typically featured Cummins diesel engines, automatic
transmissions, and dual gutter brooms. The Ford L7000 chassis
offered a robust platform with a strong, all welded cab and double
sided galvanized steel body panels.
Up for auction is a 1989 Ford L7000 street sweeper showing 44,359
miles, but the true miles are unknown. She's rough around the edges
but with BOTH left and right hand drive and a 6.6 liter turbo
diesel inline six under the hood, there's some potential here. The
vehicle does not have keys.
Exterior
White paint covers the cab and rear vacuum tank and none of it is
in very good condition with gobs of patina, peeling paint, surface
rust, and other inclusions. A large bumper underscores the
industrial sized grille and high hood, corner mirrors on the
fenders, and trailer mirrors on the A-pillars. Hydraulic and
mechanical elements of the working end of the truck are exposed
between the cab and the tank and the big steel rear door is ajar,
exposing some inner corrosion and rust.
Interior
This work truck has painted steel inner doors with long stainless
door pulls added. Inside, a pair of gray vinyl bucket seats sit
behind a pair of steering wheels. The left side gets the full
dashboard, dusty and aged, but all there and between the seats is
an elaborate control panel with vast toggle switches, gauges, and
home to the shifter. The floor has a ribbed, rubber mat and the
headliner consists of a black vinyl panel and overhead console.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a patina filled 6.6 liter turbo diesel inline six
cylinder, fuel injected and mated to an Allison AT540 5-speed
automatic transmission Power is routed to the rear Rockwell axle
and air brakes consist of front disc and rear drum.
Undercarriage
A single exhaust carries a stock style muffler and suspension
consists of leaf springs front and rear.
Drive-Ability
This rig has no keys.
