The M135 is a 2 1/2 ton, 6x6 stake body truck produced by GMC for
military use. It is part of the "Deuce and a Half" series, a
nickname commonly used for 2 1/2 ton, 6x6 military trucks that were
developed during WWII and served for over half a century.
Up for auction is this 1952 GMC M135 2 1/2 ton 6x6 state body truck
showing 27,734 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This big
truck presents with plenty of patina but is a testament to the
industrial sized efforts utilized by the government to transport
goods over terrain that would eat up normal vehicles.
Exterior
Olive drab green is contrasted by some crisp, white decal graphics
including Army stars on each side. Everything is massive on this
rig, from the front bumper, tow hooks, 20-inch wheels with 11.00-20
tires, to the long bed and tall, boxy cab. The stake bed and wide
side mirrors, as with all other external components, are painted in
the same green. A front winch is onboard with heavy duty cable just
in front of a steel cage that protects the headlights and grille.
There's some surface rust on the truck along with general patina
but no major dents in the thick steel.
Interior
Naturally drab green fills the cabin including the steel of the
inner doors. There is a red vinyl bucket seat for the driver in
pretty rough shape and a red bench next to it that fares a bit
better. Up front, the driver gets a metal instruction plate in
front of him while the gauges are moved further right. There is no
interior trim so the ceiling and side walls are just painted steel
and the floor is barren with a boxed shifter rising high from its
base.
Drivetrain
The truck is equipped with a 302ci inline six cylinder rated at 130
horsepower and fueled with a 2-barrel carburetor. A Hydramatic
4-speed automatic is onboard sending power to front and rear axles
with 6.17 gears. Drum brakes are also found on front and rear
axles.
Undercarriage
A single exhaust flows through a stock style muffler and leaf
springs are employed on front and rear.
Drive-Ability
There are no keys for this retired veteran.
