The 1941 Dodge WC series was a range of light military trucks used
extensively by the US military during World War II, including
various models like weapons carriers, ambulances, and
reconnaissance vehicles. Specifically, the "WC" designation was a
Dodge model code, where "W" indicated 1941 and "C" denoted a half
ton rating.
Up for auction is this 1941 Dodge WC-1 ton tow truck showing
68,240 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This tow truck
presents in good condition and represents what has to be a rare
surviving configuration of a light duty tow truck. There are no
keys associated with the truck.
Exterior
Like a small crane rising from the bed, the towing hardware is
constructed of bands of straight steel put together with pivot
points and guiding a sizable chain up and over pulleys terminating
with massive J-hooks that hold the wheel dolly up. Naturally, OD
green covers the entire rig and is adorned with crisp white
graphics. The paint in uniform and the front bumper shows some
surface rust and a bend. There's also some rust through on one of
the towing components in the back. 16-inch steel wheels with
staggered width carry LT rated tires.
Interior
A saddle brown vinyl bench seat presents in good condition in the
cab which of course, is barren steel painted with OD green paint.
The rear wall has brown vinyl covering in marginal condition and
the floor has a wood plank over its steel base with the shifter and
transfer case lever rising from a metal plate in the wood covering.
The three spoke steering wheel shows some patina of course, and
fronts a simple dashboard with a few vintage gauges and we note the
glass on the speedometer is cracked.
Drivetrain
This rig houses a 218ci L-head inline six cylinder rated at 82
horsepower with a 1-barrel carburetor and a 3-speed manual
transmission routing power to both axles on demand and each houses
4.11 gears. Drum brakes are employed on all four wheels.
Undercarriage
Straight forward here with a single exhaust and stock style
muffler. Things are simple with suspension as well with leaf
springs doing the job in the front and in the back.
Drive-Ability
There are no keys associated with this classic tow truck.
