Vehicle Description
1993 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2WD Short Bed Pickup
"Although many before it were said to be styled by aerodynamics,
this is the first Chevy pickup that really looked like it. It was
also the first IFS 4WD full size Chevy pickup and the first full
size pickup from any manufacturer with a third door for the
extended cab model. The dash and switchgear were unlike any pickup
that came. It also marked the end of the "universal" pickup with
non standard frame rails and headlights, and if your company made
roll pans or lowering kits, the C/K Series truck might have made
you wealthy." Thx Motortrend
For consignment, a 1993 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2WD short bed
pickup with a title verified 167,056 actual miles. This is a nicely
maintained, two owner truck that comes with a build sheet and
window sticker showing more than $6,000 worth of options.
Exterior
The truck is a stand out in that it still appears in stock
configuration, here in Onyx Black paint. It hasn't been lowered, it
hasn't been raised, and all components and hardware appear as they
did in 1993. Newer running boards make entry a bit easier and a
trailer hitch resides under the chromed rear step bumper with
rubber strip as the window sticker refers to it, a $226 option. The
full sized sliding rear window was an option too and it wasn't
unusual back then to have them unsmoked, as this one presents. The
eggcrate grille is flanked by the distinctive headlight and marker
combination that stacks lights of the same size. 15-inch alloy
wheels are specific to the model and carry 235/70R15 mud and snow
rated tires. A newer bed cover appears to be in great shape and
inside the bed, a tough plastic liner protects the metal.
Imperfections include a linear dent in the B-pillar and some
chipping paint and slight bow to the hood.
Interior
The Garnet Red interior has held up well, beginning on the door
panels that combine velour inserts, plastic armrest, and carpet
covered lowers and storage. Even the rubber coated window buttons
are intact on both doors. A 70/30 split bench has column tufted
cloth inserts framed by darker red with modest headrests and seat
belts for a middle passenger, and the bench is in great shape.
Chevy's standard steering wheel for time presents to the driver and
leads to the basic gauge cluster, a flat array behind a plexiglass
cover and easy to read orange needles. The right pod contains the
AM/FM radio and A/C panel with the period's familiar square plastic
buttons while the cassette player and EQ are found in the center of
the dash surrounded by maroon plastics and this radio option was
$113. The dark red carpet is in fantastic shape and protected by
simple rubber mats while the red headliner shows a bit of age.
Drivetrain
Under the hood we find a nicely detailed 5.7 liter TBI V8, rated at
200 horsepower and mated to a rebuilt 4L60E 4-speed automatic that
sends power to the 10 bolt rear with 3.42 gears and Positraction.
Power brakes are configured as front disc and rear drum.
Undercarriage
Also nicely detailed with minimal visible surface rust nor errant
fluids. The newer exhaust system is single and flows through a
stock style muffler before exiting to the side behind the right
rear wheel. Newer leaf springs live out back along with newer
Bilstein shocks while coil springs are found up front.
Drive-Ability
This was the beginning of the luxury pickup truck movement and the
attention to comfort starts to creep in with cloth seats, robust
door panels, and clean lines up front. We set out on the test loop
with this time capsule to find good performance, straight tracking,
and endless visibility through the tall greenhouse. All functions
on the truck operate as they should and we bring it back to the
mall to take its rightful place in the truck room. While Classic
Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time
of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be
working at the time of your purchase.
If you're looking for an old school dependable truck that has
obvious signs of being pampered, here is your candidate. If you're
looking for a platform for a custom '93, this could certainly serve
that purpose, but you gotta love the originality of the truck, a
condition that is becoming increasingly rare as these trucks age.
However you want to use it, you'll have to make the call first.
Time capsules like this have a way of blasting out of here like
Marty McFly's time machine.
