Vehicle Description
1990 Jaguar XJS V12 Convertible
The Jaguar car is world famous for its stylish designs, thrilling
performance, luxurious and comfortable interiors, outstanding
handling and ride, quality engineering, and state of the art
technology. The founder of Jaguar Cars Ltd. was Sir William Lyons
and his goal was to create world class sports sedans with "grace,
space, and pace". Lyons once said, "The car is the closest thing we
will ever create to something that is alive".
For consignment, a 1990 Jaguar XJS V12 convertible showing 95,999
miles, but the true miles are unknown. This garage kept Jag is to
many, one of the most beautiful cars ever produced for the street
and in red, it has astounding curb appeal.
Exterior
Bathed in two stage Signal Red, the key to this car's design is a
sleek body style with a trim body, yet a muscular stance which is
often seen on expensive European cars that are capable of high
speeds. Within this thin body style are straight panels and good
gaps as well as a set of dual headlamps upfront, bordered on the
bottom by an integrated chrome bumper with a black 5 MPH crash
bumper inserted. This holds true on the rear of the car too, and
the chrome is excellently preserved. Around the corner design
tail/turn signal rear lights frame the rear panel and trunk rear
deck, incredibly unique and distinctive and in two years they would
be completely redesigned. Aluminum 15-inch lace honeycomb wheels
are all around. On top is a black canvas power convertible top with
a glass rear window that is in great condition. Imperfections are
limited to some surface rust where the front air dam, included with
the car, was mounted and some curb rash.
Interior
A swing of the doors reveals Barley colored leather on the door
panels with a wood veneer strip near the upper sill of each door,
yes real wood, and it looks fantastic. Some of the carpet area
around the speaker is peeling on the driver's side, but the
handsome doors present cleanly otherwise. Honey colored burlwood
covers other parts of the dash nicely and mixes well with the
medium brown leather. The front leather bucket seats are in good
shape with a tear on the driver's side while behind them, a
carpeted package shelf presents cleanly. Up front, the black
instrument cluster includes standard dial gauges and barrel type
rolling gauges under a row of idiot light. In the center stack, a
trip and gas computer is mounted over the Jaguar branded
AM/FM/Cassette radio and the mid panel shines with coated burlwood.
A modest shifter resides in the center console, also framed in
wood, and a number of toggles accompanying. Low pile gray carpet
covers the floor matched by the Jaguar mats and the finished trunk
lined with gray cloth panels.
Drivetrain
The crowded engine bay is home to the 5.3 liter V12, fed electronic
fuel injection and mated to a TH400 3-speed automatic transmission
sending power to the 2.89 gears in back. We note stainless air
intake tubes and K&N type open filter elements. Four wheel
power disc brakes are supplied to this sport touring roadster.
Undercarriage
We're greeted with minimal surface rust and just a film of oil on
the pan, but otherwise clean driver quality conditions. Independent
suspension is front and rear with coil springs serving as the
buffer. Dual exhaust handles the exhale and connects to stock style
mufflers, eventually leading to polished tips tucked neatly under
the rear bumper.
Drive-Ability
This car started right up, and we were off to the test loop. We're
on tires that are less than five years old, so handling and grip
are on par and the car demonstrates nice acceleration. The cabin is
a comfortable place to be and we note the oil pressure gauge is not
working and the radio will need a code to unlock. During our drive,
we note an occasional clunk in the front. Beyond these things, all
other functions operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall
represents that these functions were working at the time of our
test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at
the time of your purchase.
Nothing says power, prestige and prominence quite like a Jaguar,
especially a convertible and this one hits all 3 marks. This one is
in very good condition and still has lots of life left to go find
the nearest country road and play! Most XJ's we see are in more
modest colors, but the red really pops on this body design and this
cat is an absolute stand out!
