The legendary 442 was introduced by Oldsmobile in 1964 and was
produced until 1987. It was originally released as an option
package but later became its own model. The name 4-4-2 was applied
to the car drawing inspiration from its 4 barrel carburetor, 4
speed manual transmission, and dual exhaust. The badging was
eventually shortened and the hyphens removed when it became its own
model. This 1970 belongs to the second generation and this year was
considered the pinnacle of Oldsmobile performance. To keep up with
the horsepower arms race, GM dropped the cap on engine size so
Oldsmobile responded with the Olds 455. This year is easily
identified by the vertical bars in the grill framed by double
headlights and the vertical double taillights in the rear bumper.
All of that is in place on the car and in excellent condition. It
was purchased by the current owner in 2009 in Texas before
undergoing a complete, high end ground up restoration. The build
was fully documented and the result is one of the nicest 442s in
the country. The body is rust free and in excellent condition. It
is painted in the very unique Porcelain White with Blue hood and
side stripes. These are its factory colors and is a rare
combination. This is then paired with a new Blue power convertible
top. The car is very eye catching especially when you get out in
the sun. All of the factory chrome is in place and shining bright.
It has the original deck lid spoiler in rear with the ram air hood
upfront. The car sits on Rocket Racing Wheels with Firestone Wide
Oval tires but does come with a full set of the original painted
wheels, including a spare should someone want to make it 100%
original.
The powerful 455ci V8 is bored 30 over and has been totally
rebuilt. It runs great and is all numbers matching. It is very
stock appearing under the hood with a majority of the motor painted
the correct Blue but chrome valve covers have been added. What
makes the car extra unique is it was factory ordered with a power
top, power steering, power brakes (disc front), power windows and
air conditioning. Being such a heavily factory optioned out car it
is quite a rare find. The transmission is the factory 3 speed
automatic and it sends power back to the W27 aluminum rear end.
The interior is the correct color with code 973 Blue Strato bucket
seats. It is original and due to its condition makes the 55,291
miles on the odometer likely accurate. The seats sit to each side
of the original console which offers a storage compartment and is
where you will find the factory dual gate shifter. On the console
and dash the original burl wood trim pieces are in place and look
great. All of the original gauges work great and it does have the
tic-toc tachometer. The trunk has a nice mat in place and houses 1
of the original wheels along with the original jack.
This is a gorgeous example of a 442 and is in excellent condition
throughout. You are going to have a tough time finding another one
nicer so jump on it while it is still available.
You couldn't replicate it for our asking price of $126,500.00!
