1941 Buick Super 4-Door Touring Sedan
California Car, Fireball Straight-8
For sale is a lovely 1941 Buick Super 4-Door Touring Sedan, a California car, believed to have originated in the San Gabriel Valley. It still proudly displays its early 1940s gasoline rationing decals on the windshield issued by Tom Williams' Gilmore gas station, a nod to its wartime heritage. We believe it was acquired by its second owner, an enthusiast in Ventura, then sold to its previous owner in Santa Barbara around 2016. I bought the car in 2017 and brought it back to Sonoma. We serviced it, then sold it to its current owner. Over the past eight years, he has enjoyed 6,000 reliable miles, making many improvements along the way.
Finished in rich Royal Maroon with a tan broadcloth interior, this Super Touring Sedan exudes the elegance of Harley Earl’s 1941 design, with its wider grille, integrated fender headlights, and sleek one-piece hood. The older paint still shines nicely, complemented by the chrome trim, “Super” script on the front fenders, and fender-edge taillamps. The body is clean and rust-free, and the pressed-steel wheels, wrapped in period-correct 16 x 6.50 whitewall bias-ply tires, complete the classic look.
Under the hood, the legendary Fireball Dynaflash Straight-8 (248 cu in, 125 hp) starts effortlessly, runs strong, and delivers smooth power through its dual Stromberg Aerotype carburetors with Compound Carburetion. The rebuilt 3-speed manual transmission, featuring column controls, shifts flawlessly, paired with a single dry plate clutch. Upgrades include a new wiring harness, under-dash starter button, exhaust system, water pump, fuel pump, brake master cylinder, battery, and fuel gauge sender. The rebuilt transmission, oil pump, dash gauges, gas tank (sealed and coated), steering wheel (recast), ensure this Buick is nicely operational and starts, runs, and stops as it should. The hydraulic brakes and four-wheel coil spring suspension provide a confident and comfortable ride.
Inside, the tan broadcloth interior is welcoming, with reupholstered front seats and well-preserved door panels, carpeting, headliner, and trim. The damascened chrome instrument panel houses a full set of rebuilt gauges, though the glove box-mounted clock is currently inoperable. The vent window rubber (front and rear) has been replaced, and the refurbished window regulators operate smoothly, making the cabin a delightful, relaxing place for long drives.
This 1941 Buick Super, with its strong Fireball Straight-8 and meticulous maintenance, is a reliable and stylish classic ready to cruise.
