The Studebaker Manufacturing Company was introduced in 1852 at
which time they were a coachbuilder manufacturing wagons and
carriages. They entered the automotive business in 1902 and gained
a reputation for quality, durability, and reliability. They are
often pointed at for their "ahead of their time" advancements as
they were creative and incorporated features that wouldn't be seen
in other makes for years to come. The Golden Hawk was a model
released in 1956 as a pillarless hardtop personal luxury car. They
were similar to the Champion/Commander but added a more vertical
eggcrate grill and slight tailfins in addition to other
modifications. Sales were hit by late 50's recessions so they
ultimately were discontinued until being revived in 1962 with the
Gran Turismo Hawk which would go on to become the final Hawk
series. This 1962 is one of those GT Hawks and was the top of the
line Studebaker available at the time. It is painted in a Riviera
Blue and it wears all of its original chrome and stainless trim.
The glass is all in good condition with no cracks or damage. The
car rides on a set of old school Progressive wheels with thin white
wall tires.
The engine option for this year was Studebaker's 289ci 4.7L V8
motor. Everything on the car is very stock and it runs well. It is
paired with an automatic transmission and shifts smoothly. These
engines were known for their lower compression which traded power
output for a much longer engine life.
The interior upholstery is done in multiple shades of Blue and is
in good shape. It has dual bucket seats with lap belts which sit to
each side of the original console and an added aftermarket console
which provides cupholders and storage. It has a nice bench seat in
rear with a folding center arm rest. The dash is all done in Black
and is topped off with a Black dash pad, original style trim
including the wood grain trim and the stock
knobs/switches/radio/gauges/etc.
These are neat cars and you just really don't see many of these
around anymore. They are known as Orphan cars due to Studebaker
stopping production in the late 60's. There are tons of Studebaker
clubs out there so you will have no problem finding friends to hang
out with in your Gran Turismo Hawk!
This unique classic could be yours for $20,500.00!
This vehicle is located in Washington state.
