1987 Rolls-Royce Corniche II in Monterey, California

Vehicle Description

Chassis No. SCAZD02AXJCX22276

While technically introduced as a two-door version of the Silver Shadow, bodied by Mulliner Park Ward, the Rolls-Royce Corniche was in truth the dawn of a new era of modern luxury-one instantly recognizable across the globe. Exclusive touches featured throughout the car included stainless steel half wheel covers, a wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel, and the first tachometer fitted as standard to a Rolls-Royce. It was fitted with Rolls' famous 6 -liter V8, a three-speed automatic transmission, four-wheel disc brakes, and four-wheel independent suspension with a hydraulic self-leveling system for a buttery smooth driving experience. With such an emphasis on style and comfort, the who's who quickly took notice and upon its release in 1971, the Corniche mingled with stardom. Frank Sinatra and Paul McCartney scooped theirs up while A-List names like Dean Martin and Elton John had to scramble for a spot in line on the car's years-long wait list.

Rolls-Royce continued to improve the Corniche to keep it set as the crown jewel of the marque that had come to define the essence of luxury, craftsmanship, and quiet authority. The Corniche II arrived in 1986 as a convertible-only variant, securing the car's self-proclaimed status as "Simply the best Motor Car in the world." Its second iteration now featured anti-lock brakes as standard and sported a new interior with a new instrument cluster and new seats. Standard equipment included powered seats, Connolly leather upholstery, deep pile wool carpets, leather-covered steering wheel, burl walnut wood trim, and a cavalcade of other features appropriate to the highest echelon of Rolls-Royce models.

Finished in Ivory with a powered Saddle Tan top and Tan leather interior, the clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report shows that the car was purchased new in February 1988 in New Jersey, and in November 2005 it was acquired by its current New York-based owner. It successfully completed its annual New York emissions inspection and was serviced by European specialist Edge Motors in 2023. It is now offered 37,106 miles, having accumulated just nine miles since its last official odometer reading in 2015. Furthermore, this Corniche II has recently received a July 2025 service by the collection's capable in-house mechanics in preparation for sale.

Far beyond a standard automobile, the Rolls-Royce Corniche II invites the notion of travel as an indulgence, not an obligation. With its low mileage, elegant specification, and recent servicing, this example remains every bit the symbol of taste and discretion it was in 1988.
