Vehicle Description
1996 Ford Bronco XLT
"The 1990s were a defining era for sports utility vehicles, a time
when they evolved from rugged off roaders to mainstream favorites.
Fast forward to today, and these once overlooked models are
experiencing a remarkable resurgence in the collector market. Their
distinctive designs and nostalgic charm have caught the attention
of automotive enthusiasts and collectors alike. From their boxy
shapes to robust engineering, these vehicles are not just relics of
the past; they are treasured icons of a bygone era, poised for a
triumphant comeback." Motor-junkie.com
For consignment, a 1996 Ford Bronco XLT showing 108,047 miles, but
the true miles are unknown. Situated between the XL and the Eddie
Bauer edition, the XLT had almost as many optional items as were
standard on the Bauer, essentially creating a top of the line
Bronco without the Eddie Bauer co-branding.
Exterior
While made for potential offroad adventures, we think this '96 is
now better suited for the show circuit rather than the trail
circuit, but that's up to you. We think you'll find the Oxford
White and Light Willow Green Metallic striking, and so will
onlookers. More Wimbledon than Lake Wobegon, this fancy rig pops
with color, augmented of course by big chrome on the grille and
bumpers, rolling on tough looking 15-inch forged aluminum deep dish
wheels wrapped in LT rated tires, (10 ply), with a late 2020 date
code. Lots of add ons like the side steps, spare cover and mounting
rack, and side moldings were refreshed and emblems are crisp. We
could not find any imperfections on this future show winner.
Interior
A myriad of shapes and textures make up the door panels, all in
gray, and both doors not only present cleanly, but provide ample
storage for small items with pockets contoured into the plastic.
The cloth captain's chairs up front include power lumbar and are in
excellent condition while in back, the bench provides space and
belts for three and is immaculate. The rim of the leather wrapped
wheel shows some use but the central black plastic over the air bag
and the side buttons all look good. 90's simplicity is demonstrated
by the basic gauge cluster which does include a tachometer. A new
AM/FM/CD player has been installed and has AUX and USB ports over
the standard A/C panel. Since the shifter is on the column, the
floor is open and covered in gray carpet which flows through the
car, covering the cargo area and even coats the inner tailgate.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a nicely detailed 5.8 liter V8, rated at 205
horsepower and fuel injected with dual hoses entering the stacked
inlets of the throttle body. We're talking show quality cleanliness
under here. Behind it, the Ford E4OD 4-speed automatic sending
power to the 3.55 gearsat each axle. Only power brakes will do for
this big rig and it's configured as the typical discs front and
drums rear.
Undercarriage
According to our consignor, this was a California truck until 2022
and if there's one place that will tell the tale, it's underneath.
Sure enough, this one is clean with only the typical surface rust
you get overtime on the driveshafts and exhaust. Its bone dry under
here too with suspension consisting of radius arms and coil springs
up front, leaf springs in the back. A single exhaust flows through
a stock style muffler before exiting via a tailpipe behind the
right rear tire.
Drive-Ability
There's something grand about sitting at the helm of something this
big and boxy and high. It gives you a commanding view of the road
and a feeling of indestructibility. The 5.8 comes to life without
issue and delivers adequate power to move this big SUV with crisp
shifts from the automatic and an appropriate roar from the exhaust.
We note the tailgate window does not work from the dash switch,
(but does with the key), but all other functional items on this
simple 90's design operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall
represents that these functions were working at the time of our
test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at
the time of your purchase.
Just like classic Broncos, the 90's full size Broncos are now
almost a status symbol rather than a utility tool. Their curb
appeal and street cred are unmatched, and the condition of this one
will not go unnoticed by country folk, urban cowboys, or the
country club set. It's destined for greatness. You tell us where
your stable is, and we'll make sure we get this thoroughbred to
you!
