Vehicle Description
*1941 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible*The term "Custom Car" can mean
lots of different things. To some, a set of wheels and an exhaust
makes their car custom, whereas for others, it doesn't qualify
unless every aspect of the car from bumper to bumper has been
modified and perfected. For traditional hot rodders Woodroe Parker
and John D'Agostino, it's the latter. D'Agostino has been an
idea-man and promoter behind hundreds of hot rods since the 1960s
which have won pretty much every award in the rodding world. Parker
has a background in art and design, as well as a shared
appreciation for California-style car builds. This '41 Cadillac
combines their shared passions and was built as a tribute to
Hollywood icons Clarke Gable and Carole Lombard, in celebration of
their patriotism during World War II. The design was then brought
to life by Oz Welch of Oz Kustoms - another highly respected name
in the custom car scene and 2024 Builder of the Year award
winner.Taking over seven years to build, this Cadillac - known by
its nickname "Gable II" - started life as a 1941 Cadillac Series 62
Convertible, which was a California car from new. To start, the
interior cabin area was shortened by 14 inches, giving the rear
section a smoother shape and adding a waterfall between the rear
bucket seats. The front header and glass from a 1947 Cadillac
Convertible were installed, and up front, the hood was re-shaped to
fit the grille and bumper from a '47, while the fenders were
extensively modified to fit 1953 Eldorado headlight assemblies. In
total, more than 500 inches of welding were carried out just in
front of the windshield to ensure perfect panel gaps and overall
fitment. The rear fender skirts on the car have been "crowned"
adding an extra dimension to the shape, and their side profile was
completely reshaped to follow the gorgeous flowing lines of the
rear quarter panels; they were then countersunk into the body for a
smooth fitment. The rear of the car also utilizes pieces from a 1947
Cadillac including the bumper, which was reshaped to fit the
different bodylines and make room for the 1953 Kaiser license plate
frame and "bullet" exhaust outlets. Around the vehicle, all panels
were welded, with no seam sealer used to make everything flow
perfectly, and the car was then painted in House of Kolor Candy
Pearl Root Beer which was applied with a flawless finish. The
taillamps were shaved, with custom lenses integrated into the rear
bumper overriders. A custom Carson convertible top was fabricated,
which was required given the significantly chopped roofline, which
necessitated all new glass and a roadster-style windshield up
front. The car sits on a set of True-Spoke Custom Supreme wheels
from American Steel with 48-spoke centers, wrapped in proper wide
whites. On the inside, the original interior was restored to a
concours level, with some very notable additions. The seats are all
wrapped in Grey-Mauve mohair, which was installed by Divine Customs
Auto Upholstery in Concord, CA. The front bench seat remains how it
would have come from the factory, but given the reshaped cabin, the
rear seats are bespoke with two buckets and a waterfall (painted in
the exterior color) coming down and culminating in a crystal ash
tray between the seats. The dashboard was removed and all of the
original gauges were rebuilt. While out of the car, the dashboard
was hydro-dipped for a wood grain effect before it was all
reassembled. To the left of the steering column is a pack of three
vintage-look gauges to keep tabs on the oil pressure, water
temperature and fuel, while to the right, a Vintage Air A/C system
has been fitted. In the glove compartment sits a modern Pioneer
head unit along with controls for the custom Air-Ride suspension. A
pair of Appleton 112-Series spotlights with pearlescent handles
finish off the interior - one of the most popular modifications of
the period, these spotlights look as though they could have been
installed when the car was brand new.Underneath the car, the
original frame has been modified to accept a 1975 Camaro front clip
with disc brakes, and the rear has been fitted with the Camaro's
10-bolt rear end with a 3.50 Posi-Traction differential. Numerous
reinforcements were made to the chassis, and the rear frame has
been C-notched to allow the custom air suspension to drop the car
to the ground. Powering the Cadillac is a new Chevrolet 350ci V8
crate motor with an Edelbrock carb on top that produces 300
horsepower. Power is then sent through a new TH350 automatic
gearbox to the rear wheels.Following the car's completion in 2024,
it made its debut at the Grand National Roadster Show, after which
it was displayed at the 2024 Rodeo Drive Concours d'Elegance where
it took home the "Rodeo Drive Award: Most Stylish." This incredible
kustom is ready to show and will undoubtedly garner fans wherever
it goes.Gable II is a true showstopper and would be the crown jewel
of any collection. The uncompromising vision that led to this car
resulted in a vehicle that, although extensively customized, looks
like it should have been how the car left the factory. No half
measures were taken and it is the kind of car that can only come
from a team with extensive knowledge of coachbuilding,
customization and classic American cars. With numerous famous hot
rodding names attached to the car, this 1941 Cadillac Series 62 is
an impossible car to replicate and a fitting tribute to two of
classic Hollywood's great personalities. For more information on
