"How could the owner of this elegant Cadillac resist the lure of
the open road? For nothing takes to travel like a Cadillac, and
nothing makes travel more fun than this sprightly convertible.
Cadillac's superb balance of performance and handling is
unsurpassed in all motordom. It's remarkable ease of handling
virtually removes all effort from driving. For the young at heart,
the spirited Sixty Two convertible stands out as the "Car of
Cars"...even among Cadillacs." Lofty prose from the sales brochure
of the era.
For auction at no reserve, a 1963 Cadillac Series 62 showing 91,093
miles, but the true miles are unknown. This car presents in barn
find condition and has no keys.
Exterior
Once ebony black, this former luxury convertible now has weather
paint with fading and surface rust, along with rust through most
notably on the rocker panels, chrome bumper, and along the front
edge of the hood. There are wisps of greatness here, particularly
in the stainless capped fins where the red tail light lenses still
reside, flanking an enormous decklid. The rear quarter panel and
fender may be one the longest continual stretches of sheet metal
we've seen outside of trucks, and it's augmented with fender skirts
covering the 15-inch wheels.
Interior
There's enough interior here to recognize that this was a
spectacular car at one time with red leather with biscuit button
tufting on the split bench and voluminous rear seats. The doors are
also dressed in red with robust hardware and brushed nickel
faceplates. Up front, the dash is weathered but intact and the
stalks from the column, including the shifter, are beginning to
rust. The red steering wheel is cracked in several places. All
front glass including the vent windows, appear to be intact.
Drivetrain
It's now coated with a layer of surface rust, but the 390ci V8
still resides under the enormous hood and was originally rated at
325 horsepower, fueled via a 4-barrel carburetor. A HydraMatic
4-speed automatic transmission is onboard and would send power to
the rear axle and 2.94 gears.
Undercarriage
The power plant utilizes a single exhaust system and stock style
muffler while power drums are supplied on all four wheels.
Suspension consists of coil springs front and rear with a 4 link
beefing things up in back.
Drive-Ability
Even if it could run, there are no keys associated with this former
boulevard cruiser.
