The 1958 M37 Dodge is a 3/4ton 4x4 military truck, also known as
the G-741. It's a continuation of the WC series trucks used in
World War II and was heavily utilized during the Korean War. The
M37B1, introduced in 1958, featured minor modifications like a new
transmission and relocated spare tire mounting compared to earlier
models. Production of the M37 series continued through 1968.
Up for auction is a 1958 Dodge M-37 Ton 4x4 truck showing 27,382
miles, but the true miles are unknown. This truck presents in good
condition with decent paint, most exterior accessories in place,
and a near fully intact interior and engine. No keys are needed for
this '58 but the truck does not crank.
Exterior
A fresher coat of olive drab green covers this rig with contrasting
bright white graphics including, of course, the Army star. Its
canvas top is in very good condition and accessories such as a
jerry can, pioneer tools, and spare wheel rack are still in place.
There's a Bridge Classification plate on the grille and a winch
between the massive split bumper in front. A frame constructed of
metal and wood looms over the bed and wooden stakes encircle the
sides and the wood is a mix of untreated weathered planks and
painted and protected ones. The bed itself is fairly clean.
Interior
Drab green dominates of course, including the pads of the 70/30
split bench. The passenger's lower pad is missing, exposing the
battery box and storage underneath. The dash and instrument cluster
show several coats of paint and a Sunpro temperature gauge
accompanies the vintage ones in the center cluster. Rubber mats
cover parts of the textured steel floor and the shifter, handbrake,
and range selectors all rise from the floor in olive green
glory.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a complete looking 230ci L-head inline six
cylinder with a 1- barrel carburetor and rated at 78 horsepower.
It's mated to a New Process 88950 4-speed manual transmission that
sends power on demand to both axles housing 5.38 gears. Drum brakes
are found behind each 16-inch steel wheel.
Undercarriage
A single exhaust flows into a stock style muffler and the exits via
a stack. Leaf spring suspension is utilized front and rear.
Drive-Ability
Despite there being no need for a key, this truck will not
crank.
