The Dodge M37 is a 3/4 ton, 4x4 truck developed for the U.S.
military, primarily serving during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. It
replaced the earlier Dodge WC series and was itself later replaced
by the Kaiser M715 and Dodge M880/M890 series. The M37 is known for
its ruggedness and offroad capabilities, making it suitable for
diverse terrains and combat situations.
Up for auction is this 1953 Dodge M-37 Ton 4x4 truck showing
8,554 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This one presents in
good condition with appropriately faded paint and patina
throughout, along with some intact features. There are two VINS on
the truck indicating 1951 and 1953. No keys are associated with
this M-37.
Exterior
This olive drab pick up truck rides on three of four combat wheels
which have beadlocks intended for rugged offroad conditions.
There's a fourth combat wheel in the bed with a tire mounted. White
markings such as numbers and Army stars are clean on the truck and
the grille includes a Bridge Classification Plate in a different
shade of green. The canvas top is in very nice condition with a
small rear window that overlooks the bed. Back here, lots of
surface rust exists on the bed's floor and the wooden stake sides
are weathered. On the passenger side, we see a jerrycan mounted and
an exhaust stack rising to the side of the bed towards the sky.
Interior
The no frills interior matches the exterior color, of course, and
the 70/30 split bench seat is covered in canvas and in decent
shape. The black steering wheel is faded and cracked, leading to
the flat dash and instrument cluster that combines some newer
Sunpro gauges with the originals. The floor is mostly barren and
parts are constructed of textured steel for some grip, and a tall
shifter rises up from the middle.
Drivetrain
The old engine has some modern additions including an inline fuel
filter and some of the wiring. This is a 230ci L-head inline six
cylinder rated at 78 horsepower and fueled through a 1-barrel
carburetor. A New Process 88950 4-speed manual transmission is on
board, sending power to the front and rear axles with 5.38 gears.
Once you've returned to base, you'll use the drum brakes on all
four wheels to bring the M-37 to a stop.
Undercarriage
The single exhaust runs through a stock style muffler and exits via
a stack. Leaf springs make up the suspension front and rear.
Drive-Ability
There are no keys associated with this Army veteran.
