1949 Chrysler Windsor 4 Door Sedan
The 1949 Chrysler Windsor, part of the third generation.
(1949-1952), is notable for being a 25th anniversary model and
featuring a new design with more interior space. It was offered in
various body styles like sedan, coupe, convertible, and the unique
Town & Country station wagon. The Windsor was powered by a 6
cylinder "Spitfire" engine and featured a fluid drive
transmission.
Up for auction is a 1949 Chrysler Windsor 4 door sedan showing
65,410 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This car cranks and
runs on 2+2 and presents in very good condition.
Exterior
Round headlights cap long sweeping front fenders that extend into
the door. The rear fenders are also flared and meld into the
rounded tail where a pair of diminutive tail lights reside above a
massive rear bumper which wraps around in dramatic fashion. Up
front, a grille runs the width of the car, which is substantial,
also underscored by a large chrome bumper with three torpedo shaped
bumperettes. White wall tires and full wheel covers are on all four
and rocker trim is joined by two front trim pieces, shoulder line
trim, and a spear over the rear fenders. Overall, the dark blue
paint is in decent condition, and all glass is intact.
Interior
Tan cloth with silver trim and deco style header trim line the
inner doors and present in good condition. Inside, blue cloth
covers the front and rear benches and is in nice condition. The
rear passengers have handles on the C-pillars to hold and a robe
loop in front of them to hang winter jackets and outerwear. A body
colored dash houses the speedometer flanked by four square gauges
and the central dash is an art deco display of chrome buttons and
trim for a clock and AM radio and it's all in very good
condition.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a 250.6ci L-head inline six cylinder rated at 115
horsepower and fueled by a 1-barrel carburetor. It is mated to a
4-speed FluidDrive semi-automatic transmission and power is routed
to the rear axle with 3.73 gears. Drum brakes are at all four
wheels.
Undercarriage
Suspension consists of coil springs in front and leaf springs in
the rear. A single exhaust system was standard and featured a stock
style muffler.
