1989 Cadillac Allante
The Cadillac Allante is a two door, two seater luxury roadster
produced by Cadillac from 1987 until 1993. It used a Cadillac
chassis and running gear with a body built in Italy by coach
builder Pininfarina. It was expensive to produce with the complete
bodies flown to Detroit for final assembly. Over 21,000 were built
during its seven year production run.
Up for auction, a 1989 Cadillac Allante with unknown miles but
presenting in good condition. Allante bodies were assembled by
famed coachbuilder Pininfarina in Turin, Italy and shipped to
Michigan for completion.
Exterior
This Allante is wearing two stage Pearl White paint, topped by a
black canvas convertible top. Design for the Allante was inspired
by European models and the car represented a departure from angular
cars and was the first two person roadster produced by Cadillac
since the series 355 in the 1930's. Frosted tail lights are unique
and bordered by red reflectors while the composite headlights and
relatively long hood gave the car even more European panache.
16-inch chrome wheels unique to the Allante added some flash and
the steeply raked windshield and cabin configuration gave the car a
low, sports car like profile.
Interior
A stitched brown door header contrasts with tan panels and a
carpeted corner on the door panels with black switches capping off
the armrest, and both doors present nicely. Both leather bucket
seats show some patina and are adjusted electronically with any of
the six buttons to the side. A fully digital instrument cluster is
in front of the brown steering wheel and a stack on the right cants
towards the driver and has the A/C buttons, a trip computer, and an
AM/FM/Cassette radio integrated into the black stack. A T-shifter
is in the center console and plush tan carpet covers the floor and
the package shelf behind the seats. The trunk presents cleanly and
finished in low pile tan carpet.
Drivetrain
Clean, driver quality conditions prevail under the hood where we
find the 4.5 liter V8, fuel injected and rated at 200 horsepower.
It's mated to a TH440-T4 4-speed automatic transmission that keeps
power up front, routed through 3.21 gears. Power disc brakes are
supplied at each wheel.
Undercarriage
Suspension is front and rear independent with a transverse leaf
spring in back. Dual exhaust travel through a stock style muffler
and exits with twin tips out back.
Drive-Ability
The car cranks and runs.
