The 1978 Cadillac Coupe DeVille is a classic American luxury car
known for its spacious interior and comfortable ride. It's a two
door coupe version of the DeVille series which has a plush
interior, often featuring leather seats, woodgrain trim, and other
upscale appointments. More than 117,000 Coupe Devilles were
produced in 1978.
Up for auction is a 1978 Cadillac Coupe Deville showing 53,078
miles, but the true miles are unknown. The car presents in good
condition and the engine cranks and runs on 2+2.
Exterior
Sterling Blue covers the car with single stage application,
complemented here by the white vinyl landau style top with fixed
quarter windows and exterior coach lamps. Quad headlights sit flush
with the front and flank the eggcrate grille while in the back,
vertical slit tail lights housed in chrome define the brand and a
massive decklid becomes vertical to meet the straight chrome
bumper. 15-inch chrome wire wheel covers hold white wall tires and
we could find no major flaws on the exterior.
Interior
Light blue vinyl mixes with simulated dark wood on the door panels
to create handsome and robust units where the door handle is housed
in a chrome cove and switches are backed by brushed aluminum, along
with the ashtrays. The blue leather split bench is in decent shape
with some minor wear noted on the driver's side including a small
seam split. The rear bench and sidewalls are in good shape. The
dash is a simple array of shiny woodgrain panels and a horizontal
instrument cluster housing the speedometer, with some switches to
the left and the AM/FM radio in the center stack, along with the
A/C panel. The open floor is covered in plush blue carpet which is
also found on the kick panels of the doors. The trunk is protected
by a black carpeted mat.
Drivetrain
Clean conditions are found under the hood where we find the 425ci
V8, rated at 180 horsepower and fueled by a 4-barrel carburetor.
Behind it, a TH400 3-speed automatic transmission sending power to
the 10 bolt axle and 2.28 gears. Power brakes are supplied with
discs up front and drums in the rear.
Undercarriage
The car is equipped with coil spring suspension up front and a 4
link with coil springs in back. A single exhaust system would carry
a stock style muffler before exiting in back.
Drive-abilityThe car cranks and runs on 2+2.
