1969 Ford Mustang Hardtop
1969 was a pretty good year if you liked performance cars,
especially Mustangs. You had the option of the GT, Boss 302, Boss
429, Shelby GT350, Shelby GT500, and the Mach I. If we all had a
crystal ball back then, we would have picked up one of each and
tucked them away in secure storage only to pull them out and sell
at the right time, whenever that may be. These cars were priced
between $2,700 and about $5,300 which seems like chicken feed
today, but $5,300 is equal to $44,800 in today's money, so amassing
a collection in 1969 would not have been that easy.
Up for auction is a 1969 Ford Mustang hardtop showing 38,065 miles,
but the true miles are unknown. This car presents in good condition
and packs a 302ci V8 under the hood which cranks but does not
start.
Exterior
Single stage yellow paint adorns the exterior and is contrasted
with a black hood, a blacked out latch panel flanked by three part
tail lights, black side mirrors, and faux fender ducts facing
rearward and also black. A hood scoop adds some sportiness to the
profile. The paint and body is in decent shape and 14-inch wheels
carry white wall tires. Polished metal is present as chrome
bumpers, rocker trim, wheel opening trim, and of course, the door
handles, all in nice shape.
Interior
Black vinyl door panels under the painted sill present in good
condition with some patina to the metal door pull. Inside, tall
bucket seats with headrests appear to be fully intact and
relatively clean while the hardware shows some surface rust. The
rear bench is all there with some general patina and the dashboard
is dusty but complete. There's an AM/FM/Cassette radio in the
center over the A/C lever panel and the dash pad up top is in nice
shape. Black loop carpet is below topped by Ford's standard shifter
on the transmission tunnel. The trunk contains trim and other parts
from the car.
Drivetrain
Matching yellow valve covers top the 302ci V8 with a 2-barrel
carburetor and mated to a C4 3-speed automatic transmission that
routes power to the Ford 8" rear with 3.00 conventional gears. Drum
brakes are employed on all four wheels.
Undercarriage
A single exhaust flows through a stock style muffler and suspension
consists of coil spring up front and leaf springs in the back.
Drive-Ability
This clean example cranks but does not start.
