1951 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup
"One of the most versatile trucks in the entire Chevrolet line is
the pickup, an all purpose vehicle of use to almost any business.
Features include large load space, hardwood flooring, two stake
pockets to permit installation of extended sides for extra load
height or for a canopy top. Front bumper provides protection for
the chassis and front end sheet metal." From the 1951 Chevy truck
sales brochure, a colorful tome featuring the entire and extensive
truck line.
Up for auction, a 1951 Chevrolet 3100 showing 74,017 miles, but the
true mileage is unknown. This truck is in very good condition and
while it cranks, it won't start.
Exterior
Glossy black paint covers the truck which provides a great contrast
for the wide, chrome and robust grille, the chrome bumpers, trim,
and varying hubcaps on the 15-inch wheels. Extended fenders connect
via the running boards and wooden rails line the truck's side walls
over a bed that has nice oak planks and stainless rails. Side
mirrors are mounted on the cowl and two chrome tipped exhaust pipes
emerge from under the truck out back.
Interior
Black vinyl door panels are in decent condition accompanied by
carpeted kick panels. A simple black vinyl bench runs the width of
the interior showing some patina and wear on the edge. The three
spoke steering fronts the original gauges and polished components
in a body colored dash. A B&M shifter rises from the floor,
covered by black carpet.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a 350ci V8 with a Holley 4-barrel carburetor. It
is tied to a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission sending power to
a Dana 44 axle in back. Drum brakes are found front and rear.
Undercarriage
Leaf spring suspension is utilized front and rear and dual exhaust
run through glasspack style mufflers before exiting via chrome tips
in the back.
Drive-AbilityThe 350 cranks but does not run.
