1947 Dodge WD-15 3/4 Ton Pickup
The 1947 Dodge WD15 is a 3/4 ton pickup truck known for its sturdy
build and reliable performance. It was part of Dodge's Job-Rated
truck line, which featured heavier frames and other components
compared to earlier models, reflecting lessons learned from wartime
production. The WD15 was originally equipped with a 217.7 cubic
inch inline six engine and a 3-speed manual transmission.
Up for auction, a 1947 WD-15 ton pick up truck in very good
condition. Dodge not only produced these light duty pickup trucks
for the average working man in the 40's, but also an extensive line
of heavy duty and industrial use vehicles for which they produced
specific sales brochures. This truck cranks but does not start.
Exterior
The long flat bed has a tonneau cover and follows a tall and
rounded cab behind a bulbous hood and wide fenders housing the
headlights. The nose is particularly attractive with a polished and
wide T-shaped ribbon of stainless steel embossed with the Dodge
name and painted with red accents. This is in the center of what
becomes four parts of a grille with stainless trim on each bar with
the top section picked up by the matching side vents. White wall
tires surround black wheels with moon style hubcaps and trim rings
on each side of the wide running board. The bed itself is clean and
painted black, including the wood floor planks.
Interior
Simple black grain vinyl door cards fill the center of the black
painted doors and house the window crank and door opener and both
doors present cleanly. So does the bench seat with stitched
sections and a straight back. A three spoke steering wheel fronts
the black painted dashboard where simple gauges are housed include
a water temp gauge that is marked 100, 160, and 212 degrees. Ivory
and black knobs also live on the dash while a heater resides
underneath it. Black carpet covers the floor nicely over the
pedals, hand brake, and shifter which has a missing top half to its
handle.
Drivetrain
This is a clean 217.7ci L-head inline six cylinder under the hood,
originally rated at 85 horsepower and set into motion via a 3-speed
manual transmission which routes power to 4.11 gears in back. Drum
brakes are equipped at all four wheels and the truck runs on a 6
volt system.
Undercarriage
A single exhaust system is employed with a stock style muffler.
Leaf spring suspension is found front and rear.
Drive-Ability
