A rollback truck, also known as a flatbed tow truck, features a
hydraulic bed that tilts and slides backward, allowing vehicles to
be loaded onto it by driving or winching them onto the bed. This
design is particularly useful for transporting damaged vehicles,
vehicles with low ground clearance, or for long distance tows.
Up for auction is this 1985 Ford F350 rollback showing 75,280
miles, but the true miles are unknown. The 1940 Cadillac 60 series
special sedan shell on the back of the truck is included. There are
no keys for either vehicle.
Exterior
Unobtrusive white paint covers the cab and shows a good deal of
patina while cab lights line the roof in front of emergency lights
mounted on the Miller's pylons of the bed. A bug guard front the
hood over a fully intact eggcrate grille and single headlights. The
rollback bed carries a Cadillac with white walls and red wheels,
demonstrating how this truck could serve to transport barn finds,
show cars, and racers. Our truck sits on 16-inch wheels with
LT235/85R16's and has dual tires on the back.
Interior
Blue door panels combine cloth, plastic, and carpet to fully cover
both inner doors and they present in rough condition. A vinyl bench
seat has a cloth insert, also in blue and also in rough condition
with stains, tears, and fading. The dash pad is cracked but the
instrument cluster and row of idiot lights is intact but dusty. A
radio hangs out of the dash and a rubberized floor houses the
shifter for this four speed manual. The rear window has a
slider.
Drivetrain
Under the hood we find a dusty but complete appearing 460ci V8 with
a 4-barrel carburetor and a 4-speed manual sending power to the
Dana 80 rear axle. Power brakes are supplied with front disc and
rear drum.
Undercarriage
The long single exhaust carries a stock style muffler before
exiting with twin pipes on the right. Suspension consists of radius
arm and coil springs up front and heavy duty leaf springs in the
back.
Drive-Ability
The truck does not have keys, so running condition is unknown.
