INTRODUCTION: Gold award winner scoring 398/400 points! Owned,
restored and shown by the country's leading Buick restoration
expert: Dave Kleiner. This is a #s matching #, documented,
authentic GS Stage-1. "His cars were what we all strived to
build".
EXTERIOR: This GS didn't look this good new! It doesn't get much
better than factory Fire Red without a vinyl top, sitting on chrome
wheels. The fit and finish is outstanding, the body is absolutely
straight and the doors shut like new. Repainted its original Fire
Red and it is polished like glass! Every piece of chrome and
stainless trim has been restored to show quality. Upfront it has a
pristine GS grille and T-3 headlamps. Every weatherstrip and seal,
even the little rubber fillers on the bumper corners. The glass has
all been replaced with reproduction, the windows roll up and down
like a hot knife through butter. It is sitting pretty on some 15
inch chrome Buick GS mags and they are wrapped in reproduction
Goodyear Polyglass GT tires.
INTERIOR: The interior does not disappoint, it looks practically
new! Everything fits and looks like it should. In front of me is a
dash that's in excellent shape. It has rally gauges and a factory
tachometer. Nice fitting fresh carpet on the floor with GS mats.
The factory center console is in very nice shape and the bucket
seats have been recushioned, reupholstered and given all new trim
and headrests. The back seat was reupholstered. The side panels,
armrests, window cranks have all been replaced. It even has
restored seat belts. The headliner fits tight as a drum and the
visors were redone. The sport wheel is on a tilt column.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: The original VIN number matching motor looks
stock on the outside but inside is another story. It was balanced,
bored and stroked to a 470 and then Dyno tested at 528 hp and 581
lbs of torque! Level 4 head assembly, Jet-Hot coated Buick Shootout
exhaust manifolds and Shootout lightweight intake manifold. The
quadrajet carburetor was restored. It is highly detailed including
rechromed Stage 1 valve covers, reproduction dated spark plug
wires, complete ram air cleaner assembly etc. Every component is
correct and restored. It features power steering and brakes. The
cooling system is correct with reproduction hoses and clamps,
radiator cap and white overflow bottle. All the metal surfaces are
smooth and painted real nice. It has correct gray phosphate hinges
and cadmium plated hood latch. The washers are all hooked up. It is
very complete and proper down to little details I didn't even
mention.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: It's just like it was the day it left the
factory! Under the trunk lid and the jamb are painted spotlessly,
inside is all clean metal with a nice spatter finish. It has a
reproduction sticker, trunk mat and the weatherstrip even has the
installation markings. The spare is a never used matching
reproduction Polyglass tire on a GS rim, the jack assembly looks
like new.
UNDERSIDE: The body was off the frame and the underside is detailed
as nice as the top side! The floors are pristine with a nice semi
gloss finish, the frame and chassis components are just as nice.
All of the suspension and steering was completely rebuilt and
detailed. It has the ride and handling package which includes front
and rear swaybars and boxed rear control arms. The dual exhaust
looks correct, it has some sort of coating on it giving it a semi
gloss finish. The fuel system was completely replaced. The brake
system was completely rebuilt and has disc in front. All of the
lines and e-brake cables were replaced. Looking up at the motor it
is still spotless. The VIN number matching Turbo 400 is unique for
the Stage-1, it has its original tag with "BB" designation. This
trans offers even more, it was performance built with special
clutch plates, sprag, pressure spring and shift mods. It was
debured, has 10" converter and was Dyno tested. The restored
driveshaft leads back to the 3.64 posi rear end.
SERVICE: We take pride in our cars and reputation. Therefore, we
built a 2 million dollar, 10,000 square ft service center, and
hired a team of technicians to work it. This is so we can sell you
the best cars within reason.
CONCLUSION: This car is even better than I'm describing it. I
certainly believe every little detail is correct and proper, the
judges verified that. This is the whole package: Stage 1,
documented, Concours winner, great colors and restored by the Buick
GS guru! This one will be a keeper.
