Vehicle Description
1955 Ford F100 Pickup
The introduction of the Ford F-series in 1948 sparked a flame
destined to grow into a roaring fire by the turn of the 21st
century. The second generation of the F-series, the Ford F-100, was
right around the corner. Over 100,000 of these trucks left the
factory every year between 1953 and 1956, retaining the standard
trim levels of F-100 to F-900. Of course, the most popular models
were still the F-100, with trucks finding their ways into suburban
driveways en masse for the first time.
For consignment, a 1955 Ford F100 pickup truck with a title
verified 7,518 actual miles on a 383 stroker. This is a street
rodded show truck with some wild graphics and a bed that dumps! If
you've ever dreamed about riding around with a blonde model in the
cab, this one makes it come true. The truck was featured in the
September 1993 issue of Super Street Truck magazine and the
December 1995 issue of Custom and Classic Truck magazine, both of
which are included with the truck.
Exterior
Yep, that's Grabber Blue you're looking at on this lowered truck
that's also been chopped and shaved. Other custom features include
a heavily louvered hood, a painted graphic reminiscent of pink
Close Up toothpaste and an image of the truck is portrayed in the
coiled tubes of the mural. An integrated visor looms over billet
style wiper arms and pinstriping is found throughout the truck with
a flourish in front and straight lines everywhere else. Reflective
sidewalls line the bed along with a working neon light and
plexiglass window to the polished and painted axle, pink frame, and
polished gas tank. 15-inch wheels have some matching blue
highlights as well. Imperfections include chin scrapes, various
scratches and chips, and a crack in the windshield.
Interior
A blue 55 is worked into the gray patterned tweed on the door
panels and a blue backed F100 badge and both door present cleanly
and open suicide style. Inside, we have thick blue leather bucket
seats, biscuit tufted and adorned with headrests. They're in good
shape too with some minor wear on the driver's side, while the
walls around them, including the ceiling are clad in the same
tweed. A blue leather wrapped steering wheel fronts a simple gauge
cluster but the star of the dashboard is an airbrushed blonde model
and cloud scenes that are both artistic and distracting in a good
way. A Miller Lite bar tap grows from the floor and matching blue
and gray looped carpet covers the floor.
Drivetrain
Plenty of polished parts and pink and blue pinstriping adorn the
383ci stroker V8 under the hood with aluminum heads and a Holley
4-barrel riding shotgun. It's mated to a TH350 3-speed automatic
sending power to the show worthy 12 bolt in back. Power brakes are
onboard as front discs and rear drums. Headers replace exhaust
manifolds, power steering is supplied, and the truck runs on a 12
volt system.
Undercarriage
Polished parts such as the driveshaft, axle, and shocks accompany a
pink painted frame and the wooden undersides of the bed planks for
a show ready bottom. The clean dual exhaust flows through Turbo
mufflers before exiting via fluted tips behind the stainless
running board. There are some scrapes, minimal surface rust, and
residual fluids on the pan and transmission, but we'd have no
problem lifting the bed at shows to expose the frame and
components. Suspension consists of coil springs in front and leaf
springs in the rear.
Drive-Ability
We peer out the now narrower windows and crank the 383 to life, the
truck announcing its heartbeat with authority as we roll onto the
test loop. The 70 series tires help smooth our tarmac imperfections
and the truck has good power, tracks straight, and handles well.
All functions, including the bed lift and neon lights, operate as
they should and this totally tubular radical ride is ready for the
showroom floor! While Classic Auto Mall represents that these
functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot
guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your
purchase.
If you're looking for something completely unique and a bit retro,
this highly modified relic of 1955 will do the trick. The Grabber
Blue grabs you, but it's the pink artwork on the outside and
dashboard art on the inside that keeps you. If you want to own a
centerfold model, this truck has had its share of magazine coverage
and can now be more than a calendar on your garage wall. It can be
on your garage floor!
