Originally a 307ci 2bbl with a powerglide, this car is now a very streetable, drivable beast with a Smeding Performance 383 Extreme that makes about 480hp/480lb ft at the crank. This has pretty much been my go-to car daily, although it's one of four cars I rotate among. I'm a seasonal resident in Asheville and drive the car about 500 miles every summer. It attracts phones and thumbs up everywhere I take it. This is not another "fresh rotisserie" build with 50 unproven, undriven, untested miles. I've been driving the car regularly for eight years. There are no bugs to be worked out.
I built this car with the intention of keeping it forever. Eight years later I've completed two more projects and I need to downsize.
I bought it because it was an Arizona car that had just been repainted in period correct Z28 livery. The glass was new, as were the seat covers, carpet and headliner. That's pretty much all I kept. I stripped everything else off the car and replaced everything with all new parts, including the entire powertrain, to make it the classic muscle car / highway cruiser it is today. The only rebuilt part was the 200-4R overdrive transmission with a switchable lockout converter that was built to handle high horsepower.
The panel fit and paint are excellent and although I built it for use as a driver it could easily be a show car. Everything works from the a/c to the gauges to the clock to the hide away wipers. I even installed a fast idle solenoid so the engine idles with the a/c running.
My objective in building this car was to keep the car looking mostly stock and period correct in appearance inside and out while making it much more usable, comfortable and reliable for use as a daily driver. It cruises the highway at 70mph at around 2000rpm. I don't know what the 0-60 time is, but the car is fast out of the gate.
The 5-digit odometer currently reads 11,388 miles. The actual mileage is unknown.
