Vehicle Description
Cruisin Classics is very proud to present to you this stunning 1964
Chevrolet Corvette convertible. This Corvette boasts an original
numbers-matching 365hp 327ci V-8 and numbers-matching 4-speed
manual transmission as well as both hard and soft tops in excellent
condition! All of you Corvette fans will recognize and appreciate
just how hard-to-find this combination of traits is on a '64. To
top it off, this example looks beautiful, drives great, and
everything on it works - even the clock! Let's dig a little deeper
into this very special ride...
This Corvette comes to us today dressed in a respray of its
original color of Satin Silver (940) - a low-production color
(12.5%) that looks amazing on the sleek and curvaceous body. The
paint is good driver quality with a lustrous shine, but there are
small imperfections and touch-ups to be found under close
examination. Brightwork and chrome are in very good condition -
with gleaming front and rear bumperettes, horizontal grille, rocker
covers, window trim, wiper arms, drivers side mirror, and door
handles. The aggressive front end features a sporty hood bulge,
working pop-up headlights, and flared indentations on the fenders
that make it look like it's going fast while sitting still. All of
the badging on this Corvette is correct, bright, and colorful. The
black soft-top is exceptionally nice and has a clear plastic rear
window while the hard-top wears silver paint and matches the car
perfectly. The view from the side is enhanced by 9-slot silver and
chrome wheel covers with spinners - all wrapped in Cooper
Trendsetter SE white-wall radials. Around back you'll find iconic
round taillights with chrome trim rings, a chrome cross-flags gas
fill door, and polished tailpipes that exit through the lower rear
valence under the bumperettes. A quick peek underneath reveals a
spare kit with full spare tire.
Lift the forward opening hood to find a very clean and
stock-looking engine bay. At the heart is a numbers-matching 327ci
solid lifter V-8 with suffix code "RE" - denoting it as a 365hp
block mated to a manual transmission. Of the 22,229 Corvettes
produced in '64 (coupes and convertibles), only 7,171 were sold
with the 365hp option - and this car still retains its original
engine! The orange block is topped off with an aluminum intake, a
4-barrel Holley carburetor, finned "Corvette" valve covers with
"365 Horsepower" decals, and a chrome air cleaner. Steering is
manual, but the 4-wheel drum brakes are power with a single
reservoir. Exhaust flows through cast manifolds and dual mufflers
to exit the rear with a pleasing rumble. The strong-running V-8 is
mated up to a numbers-matching Muncie 4-speed manual transmission
that sends power to the rear wheels via a replacement 3.23:1
Positraction rear axle. This drivetrain combination allows this
Corvette to cruise comfortably at freeway speeds while still
providing exciting acceleration from a start. The original rear
axle with 4.10:1 gears is available with the car if you'd like
it.
When you swing open the drivers door, under-dash courtesy lights
pop on to welcome you into the black interior. The door panels are
OEM design and appear to be original, with light fading on the
lower carpeted section being the only demerit. Bright sill plates
lead you in and newer high-quality black hook and loop carpet
follows. The carpet is kept nice with carpeted "Corvette" logo
floormats. The bucket seats are covered in standard black vinyl,
just as originally ordered. The seats are in excellent condition
and have likely been re-stuffed and re-covered judging from how
nice and comfortable they are. Between the seats are a padded
armrest and a shifter console that's home to a chrome ball shifter
with finger-lifts, a shift diagram, and an ashtray. Ahead of the
driver is a 3-spoke simulated walnut-grain steering wheel with
working horn and "cross-flags" center-cap. The steering wheel
fronts an arched gauge cluster that offers a 160mph speedometer,
6,300rpm redline tachometer, and gauges for fuel, battery, oil, and
temp - all of which work as designed. Also within the gauge bezel
are knobs for lights and the working 2-speed wipers as well as the
ignition. The center valley of the black vinyl dash is home to a
working clock, controls for the working heat and fan, and a
retro-style vertically-oriented AM/FM stereo that plays your
favorite tunes through speakers mounted in the custom-molded
aftermarket kick panels. Ahead of the passenger is a grab-handle
that's integrated in to the upper arch and a glovebox with a
chrome-trimmed door and "Corvette Sting Ray" badge. Behind the
seats is a carpeted storage area that also houses the convertible
top in down-position.
This 1964 Corvette Sting Ray is an excellent investment piece and a
fun driver that is sure to put a smile on your face every time you
get behind the wheel! It still retains its original colors,
original engine and transmission, and it comes with both tops -
making it highly desirable and collectible! You'll have to search
far and wide to find another mid-year Corvette that offers the bang
for the buck that this one does! Don't wait to give our friendly
staff a call - this Corvette surely won't be here for long!
