Vehicle Description
Chassis No. 1582021969
The Volkswagen Super Beetle was unveiled in 1971 as a more refined
evolution of the beloved Bug, bringing meaningful updates to the
world's favorite "people's car." Featuring a MacPherson strut front
suspension, better ventilation, and a more spacious front trunk,
the Super Beetle was designed to offer a smoother ride and
increased practicality-all while retaining the unmistakable charm
of the original.
This 1978 Volkswagen Super Beetle Cabriolet is finished in vibrant
Mars Red with a Black soft top and matching Black leatherette
interior. Notably, the car has been fitted with factory air
conditioning-a desirable option for both collectability and
comfort. Additional factory options include the VW Quartz clock and
the VW cigarette lighter. Further charming period touches include
Lady Bug floor mats, wooden shift knob and handbrake, and an Alpine
AM/FM stereo. The Super Beetle also retains its original license
plate and factory full-sized spare tire in the front trunk.
Accessories added later include a Rocky Mountain front disc brake
kit, enlarged six-quart oil pan, and locking gas cap. Power is
delivered by a fuel-injected 1600-cc flat-four through a four-speed
transaxle manual transmission.
The Beetle's original title shows that it was purchased new in
April 1978 in White Plains, New York, where it remained lovingly
cared for and preserved for decades. The car was recently serviced
at a Porsche service center, where its oil was changed and the air
conditioning unit was inspected. This single-owner, highly-original
example is now offered with 37,602 miles at the time of
cataloging.
Meticulously maintained and clearly cherished for almost 50 years,
this Super Beetle Cabriolet marries improved engineering with
timeless open-air motoring. It's a compelling example of an
air-cooled icon, ideal for any collector seeking originality or an
enthusiast looking for an entry-level, turn-key classic.
