Vehicle Description
In the eight generations of the Corvette, determining which cars
are the most collectible usually revolves around firsts and lasts.
Generally speaking, a 'Vette that is the first to introduce
something or the last to say goodbye to some aspect of Chevy's
flagship tends to resonate with enthusiasts everywhere. This
particular 1960 Chevrolet Corvette, fully repainted in eye-catching
Roman Red, with its white canvas top and removable body-color hard
top, is a stellar example of a first-generation car. With its
numbers-matching engine, the 1960 model is the final year before
the Corvette changed over to its quad-taillight setup, making it a
noteworthy C1.
Inside, we find a clean, stock-looking red interior. Dual bucket
seats offer an expansive view of the fast-approaching road ahead
for both the driver and passenger. A three-spoke, red-rimmed
steering wheel sits in front of a classic six-pod C1 dashboard,
featuring a large, half-moon 160 mph speedometer and a 7,000-rpm
tachometer positioned front and center for the driver, flanked by a
pair of auxiliary gauges on either side. Although non-functional at
check-in, the original Wonderbar AM radio still looks plenty cool
sitting above the three HVAC knobs and big analog clock. The
passenger gets a red expletive-bar with a Corvette logo just beyond
it.
Under that signature front-hinged hood, we find a numbers-matching
283 cubic-inch V-8 engine. Topped with a set of dual-quad Carter
carburetors sitting on a factory intake manifold feed that vintage
small block, while a dual exhaust sends spent gases out through a
set of factory-style replacement mufflers to allow this 'Vette to
sound just the way it did three-quarters of a century ago. Those
270 advertised horsepower are routed through a Borg Warner T10
four-speed manual transmission before being sent out to a GM 55p
drop-out style rear end, which transfers power to the pavement via
a set of fifteen-inch red steel wheels, complete with Corvette
hubcaps, shod in BFG Silvertown white-wall tires.

Riding on a suspension consisting of an independent setup in front
and a solid axle/leaf spring rear configuration out back, this 1960
Chevrolet Corvette shares, along with all other C1's, the
distinction of having a solid axle rear and drum brakes before the
C2 came along with an independent rear and disc brakes in 1963 and
1965, respectively. If you've always wanted to join the vaunted
Corvette Club, this 1960 model comes with the notoriety of being
the first generation of this heralded line, and the last 'Vette to
offer fender-mounted taillights. Don't wait, call today!
