Vehicle Description
1973 Volvo 1800ES 4-Speed w/Overdrive for sale! Motorcar Classics
is proud to present this stunning 1973 Volvo 1800ES which is
finished in the original colors of Ivory (42) with a tan interior.
It is powered by Volvo?s iconic 2.0-liter inline-four paired with a
four-speed manual transmission with electronic overdrive.
Specifications include IPD sport springs and sway bars, 15 factory
wheels, factory chrome roof rack, leather tie-down cargo straps,
and an aftermarket CD stereo. Since being acquired by its most
recent owner in 2019 restoration work has included a repaint as
well as refreshment of the suspension and steering, replacement of
the rear main seal, a resurfaced flywheel, differential rear seal,
tune-up with valve adjustments, and electrical repairs. Additional
features include a power antenna, dual side mirrors, factory chrome
roof rack, chrome bumpers, and side moldings and upper quarter
panel trim. A replacement grille and mirrors were installed while
the bumpers were reportedly replaced by a prior owner. Factory 15
steel wheels wear Volvo center caps and are fitted with 185/70
Vredestein Sprint Classic tires showing 2018 date codes. Braking is
handled by disc brakes at all four corners. The suspension was
refreshed in January 2020 with replacement shocks, control arms,
bushings, tie rods, IPD sport springs and sway bars, and ball
joints. The interior is trimmed in Cognac with matching door panels
and tan carpets covered with black floor mats. Interior features
include woodgrain trim accents, a fold-down rear seat, electric
rear window defroster, and a Panasonic CD stereo. The Smiths
instrumentation has been replaced or rebuilt recently, including
the 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6k-rpm redline, and
gauges for coolant temperature, oil temperature, fuel level, and
oil pressure. The six-digit odometer shows 70,688 miles, though
true mileage is unknown. The 1,986cc inline-four features Bosch
D-Jetronic electronic fuel injection and was factory rated at 112
horsepower. In recent services, the coolant was flushed, the valves
adjusted, replacement coolant and oil temperature sending units
installed, oil and transmission fluids changed, and a tune-up
performed in late 2020. A replacement battery and heater valve were
more recently installed. The clutch was replaced in 2016, the
flywheel was resurfaced and a new rear main seal installed during
an engine-out service in November 2020, and replacement
transmission mount was installed in February 2021. This may be the
nicest driving 1800ES we have had the pleasure to offer, and the
color combination is among the most flattering for this very
desirable model.
