Vehicle Description
1974 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
"Notably, the 1974 Corvette was the first to feature polyurethane
bumpers at both the front and rear, setting the stage for future
designs and adding a unique touch to its already striking
appearance. This transition symbolized the Corvette's ability to
navigate new crash safety regulations while maintaining its
aesthetic appeal. The 1974 model stands out as a true milestone in
Corvette history, representing a blend of style, safety, and
innovation." Vette-vues.com
For consignment, a 1974 Chevrolet Corvette coupe with a title
verified 113,052 actual miles. Here is one with a numbers matching
drivetrain! Yes, the engine and transmission are original to the
car, placing it a bit higher in the collectability pecking
order.
Exterior
There's no mistaking Corvette Orange, here augmented with some
flames coming from the characteristic fender vents and redline
tires over the 15-inch Chevrolet Rally wheels. The coke bottle
silhouette of the car's profile has been likened to other fanciful
shapes in the world and results in subconscious and not so
subconscious attraction to the car. This is the year of the split
rear bumper wearing the epic quad light set up with reverse lights
embedded on the inboard circles. Polished A-pillars lead to the
body colored removable top which gives way to a C-pillar and then
flying buttresses that are arguably one of the great automotive
features. The full rear window affords visibility behind you while
a slightly cowled hood in front helps guide your forward. A side
pinstripe in red is accompanied by a flourish around the front
emblem and we found no exterior imperfections on this orange
creamsicle.
Interior
Medium Saddle colors the interior beginning on the door panels
which look fresh from the showroom. The bucket seats enjoy the same
quality, nicely stitched and piped in a monochromatic saddle tone
that is inviting and clean with the bottoms showing some minor
discoloration that might come out with a detail. There's definite
patina on the center cap of the steering wheel, rimmed in firm
black rubber, leading to the standard instrument cluster with
tinges of patina but show worthy as is. The cockpit like
arrangement of gauges in the center are backed by a wood veneer
faceplate and this theme continues on the buttons of the AM/FM
radio and the center console base plate for the shifter and here
the wood looks slightly aged and driving with the top off will do
that over time. The tan looped carpet is in good shape and topped
by matching floor mats and the cargo area also benefits from clean
carpeted coverage.
Drivetrain
Bright red valve covers highlight the clean engine bay where the
numbers matching 350ci V8 resides, fueled by a 4-barrel carburetor
and rated at 195 horsepower. It's backed by the numbers matching
TH400 3-speed automatic sending power to the rear axle with 3.08
gears with Positraction. Four wheel power disc brakes, A/C, and
power steering are onboard for this American legend.
Undercarriage
We'll call it driver quality as you would expect given the mileage
and as such, we have typical surface rust, some oil build up on the
power steering components, a drop or two on the pan and a light
film on the transmission pan. The dual exhaust slides through the
frame's cross member then swings around the spare tire, entering
stock style mufflers just before exiting through down-facing
tailpipes. Suspension is made up of coil springs in front, and
Corvette's unique independent rear suspension is present and capped
off with transverse leaf springs.
Drive-Ability
No surprises here and no shifting, and we're okay with that! The
350 delivers fine power, especially for 1974, and of course, the
car tracks like it's on rails, but we're on older tires so won't be
peeling out in this orange blast. The no frills analog operations
of the car all perform as intended and we roll this juicy ride back
to the mall with smiles ablaze. While Classic Auto Mall represents
that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we
cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of
your purchase.
A stunning exterior, a numbers matching drivetrain, a fine
interior. It's a Corvette collector's dream, or a great way to
start your collection! This is an eye-catching, clean ride that is
ready for a new home. Are you ready to instantly brighten your
garage?
