Vehicle Description
Owning a truly unique and well-done classic car is a feeling like
nothing else in the world. You feel stronger, you make friends
quicker, and life just becomes better with one turn of the key.
Take a good look at this 1959 Chevrolet El Camino Restomod, because
this is precisely what we're talking about, and you're almost
guaranteed not to see another one like it anytime soon. Fully
repainted in a beautifully ethereal Turquoise Mist, this first-year
El Camino shows us why Chevy's response to the Ford Ranchero was
such a raving success. With its big fins, straight lines, and
stunning polished American Racing wheels, this half-car, half-truck
is ready to haul in whichever way your heart desires.
Inside, we find an interior as captivating as the exterior. With
its two-tone turquoise and white split-bench seat and matching door
panels, this Elco sports an expansive dashboard filled with all the
necessities, without ever looking cluttered. A trick
power-assisted, banjo-style Grant steering wheel sits just in front
of a five-pod gauge cluster featuring a large, center-mounted 120
mph speedometer flanked by two auxiliary gauges on either side. The
Classic Car Stereo AM/FM head unit is a sneaky upgrade, sitting in
the original radio's factory location, but giving away its age once
its digital readout comes alive.
Pop open that expansive hood, and snugly tucked between those front
fenders, we find a transplanted 5.7-liter LS1 V-8. With its
lightweight aluminum block and heads, 10.25:1 compression ratio,
and composite intake manifold, the first-generation LS1scored well
into the 300s for both horsepower and torque, making it a robust
centerpiece to build any classic car around. That power is funneled
through a 4L60E four-speed automatic transmission before being sent
to the rear end, where it is transferred to the tarmac via those
aforementioned stunning 17-inch Torq Thrust II wheels, shod in big
275/40ZR-17 Nitto rubber. At the same time, a narrower set of
245/45ZR-17 NT555s handle steering duties, while the true-dual
exhaust announces this El Camino's arrival with a sound only a
late-model small block can make.
